Multiple Choice 3rd Grade

M/C TEST PREP
Multiple Choice
3rd Grade
One of the types of questions
that students will see involves
asking for the BEST option
among several choices. In this
3rd grade example, LaRee Ueek
asks her students to choose the
BEST sentence and explain why
it is the best choice.
Ideally, this assessment would
occur only after much practice:
whole group, in small groups
and individually. The students
are practicing not only sentence
combining but also using
multiple choice. Use multiple
choice only for very purposeful
reasons because it can cause
mislearning. See Teaching for
Excellence for more information
about multiple choice
questions.

M/C TEST PREP CONTINUED
This test prep strategy teaches students to work collaboratively as they slow down and process the language of the
test questions, not just the stems and distractors. The strategy also teaches a process for narrowing their responses to
questions.
AP English Literature and Composition
Name:
Multiple Choice Practice
Directions: Read the question. Circle the key words/phrases in the question. Attach the key
words/phrases to a definition or an alternate word to help you understand the question better.
Read each distracter. If it is a possible correct answer, write a “?” next to it. If you know it is
incorrect, draw a slash (/) through the letter. (If it is an EXCEPT question, then just write T or F
next to the letter) Then write your rationale for each distracter. Continue eliminating distracters
as far as you can. Then circle the letter of the most correct choice.
