OF
THE
ENVIRONCENTRUM, s.r.o. COMPANY
The company was founded in 1993. At the present time it employs 46 employees and
dispose with its own machinery and instrumental equipment, which is necessary for high quality implementation of all types of executed works.
The bearing programme of the company is represented by comprehensive solution of
problems of protection and creation of the environment, while the main stress is put on the
following areas:

The protection of the environment is a serious social problem. The ENVIRONCENTRUM company is aimed mainly at revitalisation of the environmental components polluted
with organic substances (the rock environment, underground water). In this area, we render
comprehensive services, ranging from exploration of the contaminated regions, specifying the
nature of pollution, through professional assessment of the extent of the rock environment –
underground water ecosystem endangering, elaboration of a proposal for revitalisation measures up to the proper recovery and decontamination of media polluted by oil substances.
In the field of exploration works, the company has available the professional support,
which will collect relevant data on the each locality, in order to elaborate a proposal for necessary revitalisation measures in co-operation with professionals throughout Slovakia and using
effective exploration methods.
In the field of rescue works, in addition to classical technologies, the ENVIRONCENTRUM company also uses other intensification methods such as bioventing, venting and air
sparging.
Problems in the field of decontamination are solved by the ENVIRONCENTRUM company on the basis of its own technologies.
For purposes of decontamination of soils and waters polluted by
organic substances, it uses its own bacterial preparation, BIOVITAN, which has been approved in the biding expert´s statement of

the Ministry of Health (documented in annex). The preparation is produced and continuously
improved in co-operation with the Institute of Geotechnics of the Slovak Academy of Sciences and with University of Veterinary Surgery. The permanent transfer of the information
between scientific workplaces and practice guarantees progressiveness of technologies and
high standard of the achieved results.
The ENVIRONCENTRUM company provides decontamination works either directly in the
facility of the pollutant by the so
called “in situ” method (directly at
the site), or by the “ex situ” method
at its own decontamination centres,
which are located in the cadastral
area of the villages of Ruskov and
Bohdanovce.
The
centres
have
obtained the approval of the Ministry
of Environment for transport of
dangerous wastes for the sake of
decontamination of waste from the pollutants in all districts of Slovakia.
Our company solved decontamination of ecosystem ground area-ground water after
breakdown escape of oil from distribution pipe of international pipeline.
The largest decontamination works we passed during breakdown of international pipeline in locality Čaňa when we have cooperated with a causer of the breakdown. We passed
elimination of the most polluted soil from surface. Later we passed exploration of environmental elements of environment to state scale of ground and water contamination. We made
project of decontamination works and we passed them in saturated and unsaturated zone of
the ground. Near location of water source for 25000 people was a very important risk factor.
This factor was eliminated by establishing of protective and decontamination system based on
ground water pumping. Pumping was combined with methods for cleaning of unsaturated
zone – venting, bio-venting. The reference sheet for recovery works and disposal of dangerous
wastes carried out on the basis of own technology is given in the annex. Result of decontamination works passed during 3 years was full elimination of free oil from ground water surface
and residual contamination in unsaturated zone of the ground was on level 10 and more-times
lower in comparison with an initial level.

Recycling of building rubbish
This activity solves problems with reuse of building rubbish unlike the manner of
waste disposal by its deposition, which in general has prevailed up to present time.
The method of recycling of building rubbish is based on crushing the rubbish and its
subsequent sorting into fractions according to the grain size. The material sorted in the above
way can be used again in the building industry. The above-mentioned solution not only minimise demands for construction of new dumps, which is undesirable from the social point of
view, but it is ultimately more advantageous for the pollutant from the financial point of view.
The ENVIRONMCENTRUM company has established the recycling centre in Krásna
nad Hornádom for disposal of building rubbish from the Košice conurbation. The building
rubbish is processed using the RESTA mobile crushing plant with its subsequent sorting on
the semi-mobile sorting line.

to provide for a certain level of
mechanical homogeneity of materials
at the output. Selection of the quality
assured in this way will be used for
optimising of use of the sorted materials. In 1996 and 2000 more than 120,000 m3 of building
rubbish were processed at the recycling centre in Krásna nad Hornádom.
Using the above technology, the ENVIRONCENTRUM company also solved the recycling of approx. 35,000 tons of building rubbish from demolitions after troops of the Soviet
Army in the barracks in Rožňava and Jelšava.
The recycled material was used for creation of the surface portions of unconsolidated
roads and sub bases for consolidated areas.
The mobile crashing plant is also used by the company for the primary treatment of
contaminated concrete before starting with decontamination. After crushing this concrete, its
surface is increased many times, which is desirable for subsequent removal of pollution.

Rescues of unapproved dumps
Rescues of unapproved dumps in the Košice region are considered by the ENVIRONCENTRUM company to be one of its priority activities in the future period. By the carried out
works, mainly on the VŠA – Pri prachárni bypass, the company demonstrated justification of
the use of recycling methods even under conditions of the rescue of unapproved dumps, which
is unambiguously acceptable from the environmental point of view.
The method of rescue is based on the thorough separation of the dump components,
which could effect adversely the environment. After this preliminary sorting of municipal
waste on the belt conveyors, the non-reactivity of the material designated for further sorting is
assured. After separation, a portion of the material can by used again for reclamation of the
locality, however, this is conditioned by evidence that this material is not harmful for the environment using laboratory analyses. The other types of waste separated during rescue works
can be used mainly as the secondary raw materials save municipal waste, which is incinerated.
Insulation of safety reservoirs in order to ensure their resistance and
tightness against oil hydrocarbons
In order to ensure a higher level of protection of the geological ground against possible
contamination with oil substances, the company carries out the insulation works on the basis of the materials with guaranteed properties for active protection
of all surfaces coming into contact with oil substances.
Using the modern coating systems, the ENVIRONCENTRUM company provides protection of all
types of surfaces against any ingress of stored oil hydrocarbons, while preserving the tightness of the surface barrier as long as possible belong among the basic requirements for protective coatings,
in addition to observing the qualitative parameters.

toughness and hardness.
The ENVIRONCENTRUM company presented itself by insulation works in the facilities of the SLOVTRANSGAZ company in Jablonov nad Turňou, Veľké Zlievce, Ivanka pri
Nitre and Veľké Kapušany.
Approximately 15,000 m2 of safe reservoirs and 5,000 m2 of handling areas were protected against oil hydrocarbons at the above localities, mainly using the coatings based on epoxides with simultaneous laminating.
