The higher the bounce, the longer the ball is away from your hands. • Scissors from the front, from behind Ball Handling 3 For this series of drills establish 3 variaQons or heights of your dribble Level 1‐ really low Level 2‐waist level Level 3‐ pounding it The drill is to call out a number and a hand LeA 2 Right 3 Right 1 LeA 3 Etc… “Right 1” “LeA 3” Ball Handling 5 Combo ball handling drill. Combine movement with the staQonary drills From the baseline go to free throw line‐jump stop and do leg circles Go to midcourt‐ jump stop and do spider rouQne Get to far free throw line‐ jump stop and do push‐pull Go to baseline‐ jump stop and do figure 8 Turn around and do the same sequence back Coaches can add a lot of variety to this drill Ball Handling Backing Up This is a ball handling skill that few players pracQce. Player with ball goes hard at defender/coach. Stops, backs up with 3 dribbles and then a[acks the defender. Make sure that players pracQce with their weaker hand. Ball Handling Two Balls 1 Working with 2 balls adds another dimension to the game. Start with Basic 2 ball dribbling Go down to level 1, very low Then up to 3 then to 2 At level 2, alternate Alternate and then cross‐over Pix of very low, pix of very high Ball Handling Two Balls 2 This combines the levels of dribbling with the balls in each hand. The coach will call out a 2‐digit number. The first digit is for your right hand and the second digit is for your leA hand. For example 13 is level 1, (really low) for your right hand and level 3 (really high and pounded hard) for your leA. You can add a crossover in as well. The coach calls out numbers 11, 12,13, 21,22, 23,31,32,33 every few seconds. Ball Handling Two Balls 3 Rhythym Allow the players can establish their own rhythm. Have them change it every 15‐20 seconds. Have the players dribble through their favorite song or to the music that is being played on the sound system Ball Handling Two Balls 4 Start with push‐pull with both hands. Make sure that hands are completely behind the ball when you are pushing and in front when pulling it back. Add the cross‐over and then switch and cross‐over. Ball Handling Two Balls 5 The final porQon is “High‐low”. If the coach calls out, “Right”, the ball in the right hand goes high while the leA hand is very low. Coach calls out, “LeA”, the leA ball goes high while the right ball goes low. Coach calls out right‐leA every few seconds. Ball Handling Two Balls with MoQon 1 This is a li[le bit more advanced. Go about half speed. • Regular dribble up and back • Crossover up and back Head up Eyes forward looking for team mates Ball Handling Two Balls with MoQon 2 The layer then goes up and back doing push‐pull. Coaching point is to see how how even the balls are. Players usually favor a parQcular side. Coaches need to point this out to the player if they see one side being favored. Ball Handling Two Balls with MoQon 3 The player now drives forward for a couple of bounces, stops and takes a few steps back. Go up and back. AAer doing this series at half speed, have the player now try this at Full Speed. Coaching point is to watch the posture and to see if the head and chin are up. Ball Slamming Drill Trap Drill‐ This is an example of over‐training. Player slams the ball down and traps it low with opposite hand. Make sure you switch hands.
