I feel like my body has go en totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the me I got my leotards on, the class was over. Can you relate? Gardening News Our Thri store carries a variety of items. You might find something you just can’t live without. Stop in for a look‐see. We are open Monday‐Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visit Santa December 3rd & 10th from 12:00 noon — 2:00 p.m. Severe weather can be dangerous. Flooding roads, damaging homes, downing power lines and more. Even when the storm clouds pass, you aren't necessarily in the clear. Follow these precau ons in the a ermath of severe storms. A er a Severe Thunderstorm Avoid driving if possible. If you have to travel, turn around if the road is flooded or blocked by debris. Stay away from downed power lines. Anything touching the power line can carry a charge. Report the downed line and avoid the area. Clean up or rope off dangerous areas. Cover hail‐ or wind‐damaged windows with tarps and plywood un l an inspector can assess the damage. The Florist 1. Don't mulch for winter until the
ground is frozen. This may be
counter-intuitive, because gardeners
think of mulch as a blanket and
blankets keep people warm. The
mission of mulch is actually to keep
the ground frozen. Frost heaves,
when the ground freezes, thaws, then
freezes again, can harm plants' roots.
2. Put your terra cotta planters and pots
in the garage during the winter.
3. If you have containers of plants don't
put them up against the house or
leave them under the eaves. Put
them in the yard where they're
protected from the wind but can still

A er a Tornado Wear appropriate clothing. Sturdy, closed‐toe shoes or boots, long sleeves and gloves are best for inspec ng damage and handling debris. Avoid using candles or torches to inspect damage. Sparks from an open flame could ignite a fire or cause a gas‐related explosion in a damaged building. Shut off the power if you smell something burning, see frayed or sparking wires or suspect a gas leak. Turn off the main circuit breaker and the natural gas and propane tanks. Use cau on around debris. Sharp objects, broken glass or exposed nails may cause injuries that could lead to infec on. A er a Hurricane Be cau ous around electronics. Do not turn on wet appliances. If appliances are plugged in, turn off the power at the circuit breaker and have an electrician inspect appliances before you use them again. Throw away spoiled food. Toss perishables as well as any food that has come in contact with flood or storm water. Avoid tap water. Public water may be contaminated a er a severe storm. Use bo led water for drinking, If your home sustains damage in a severe storm, contact your Homeowners Insurance agent to fill out a storm damage claim. CaramelAppleBars
Ingredients:
1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup bu er or margarine, so ened 1/4 cup shortening 1‐3/4 cups all‐purpose flour 1‐1/2 cups quick‐cooking oats 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 4‐1/2 cups coarsely chopped peeled tart apples (3 medium) 3 tablespoons all‐purpose flour 1 bag (14 ounces) caramels Direc ons: Heat oven to 400ºF. Mix brown sugar, bu er and shortening in large bowl. S r in 1‐3/4 cups flour, the oats, salt and baking soda. Reserve 2 cups oat mixture; press remaining oat mixture in ungreased rectangular pan, 13x9x2 inches. Toss apples and 3 tablespoons flour; spread over mixture in pan. Heat caramels over low heat, s rring occasionally, un l melted; pour evenly over apples. Sprinkle with reserved oat mixture; press lightly.
