CHAN King-Cheung
Mr. CHAN King-Cheung is the deputy publisher of the leading financial daily,
Hong Kong Economic Journal ( HKEJ ). As a senior media management executive,
Mr. CHAN also served as adjunct professor of the School of Journalism and
Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong ( CUHK ) from year 2001
to 2012.
During his illustrious 27-year journalism practices, Mr. CHAN has taken up
various positions in journalism. From the year of 1983 to 1985 he worked for a radio,
a news agency and a local Chinese newspaper. In 1986 he joined the HKEJ and was
promoted to assistant chief editor in 1993, in charge of daily reporting and editorial
writing. In the year 2003 he has been promoted to chief editor, and be appointed as
Executive Director in 2010. In 2013, he is appointed to be the deputy publisher and
president of EJ digital.
Mr. CHAN received his bachelor’s degree from the CUHK in 1983. In 1990, he
received a 10-week fellowship on Media Management by the prestigious Poynter
Institute for Media Studies in the United States. He also obtained his master’s degree
in Communication ( M. Phil. ) and MBA from the CUHK in 1993 and 2001
respectively.
While making substantial contributions in journalism, especially in business
reporting and media management, Mr. CHAN has been an active journalism
educator. He is teaching a master program in CUHK and appointed as a member of
the School of Communication Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Baptist
University in January 2008. He also served as an external examiner of Hong Kong
Baptist University’s School of Communication Studies and external assessor of the
Open University of Hong Kong some years ago.
In public service, Mr. CHAN had been appointed by the Chief Executive as
member of the Committee on Review of Public Service Broadcasting in January
2006. The Committee had submitted a final report to the SAR Government in 2007.
In March of 2010 he has been appointed as member of Investor Education Advisory
Committee and Products Advisory Committee of the Securities and Futures
Commission. On July 1st 2010, he has been awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star
(BBS) by the SAR Government of Hong Kong.
