SAAM SMIT TOWAGE
PANAMA
PANAMA
Saam Smit Towage Panama has been successfully serving Panamanian ports
from its bases in Balboa and Cristobal since 1986. Services range from harbour
towage and safety standby work to coastal towing and statistic towing of
tankers. Thanks to the continued professionalism and flexibility of its regional and
global network, Saam Smit Towage Panama has expanded its services to include
such other ports as Colon, Bahia las Minas, and Chiriquí Grande.
With a fleet of 13 modern standardized azimuth stern drive tugs, Saam Smit
Towage Panama provides harbour towage and tanker assistance for nearly every
port on both sides of the Canal. Coastal towing and assistance are also provided
for ports in Chiriqui Grande, Taboguilla, and Melones.

The fleet’s newest tug, a Damen Tug 2913 named the SST Rambala, is designed
primarily as a compact, highly manoeuvrable and powerful tug, ideally suited
for busy harbours and waterways where space is limited, as well as for more
general operations in open water. With a bollard pull of over 80 tonnes it can
handle the largest vessels, has a double hull to comply with the latest regulations,
and has fire-fighting (FiFi1) capabilities.
All Panamanian tugs provide proven international technology, design, and
standardization. Saam Smit Towage Panama is also focused on recruiting local
Panamanian Captains, Chief Engineers, and Mariners and continually invests
in training crews and staff to ensure a reliable and safe maritime service. This
combination of crew and tugs provides consistent safe and high quality service
along with competitive rates.
