Introduction American Psychological Association had predicted that the internet is potentially leading to addiction among computer users which indeed to develop policy guidelines for counseling the persons who may become internet dependent. Compared to other forms of addiction such as gambling and alcohol public awareness about internet addiction is still in its stage of infancy. However a number of specialists have studied the internet addiction problem and have a number of definitions and reasons for the internet dependent behavior. According to Goldberg‘s described Internet addiction is a behavioral addiction that serves as a coping mechanism and borrows from substance dependence criteria for the DSMIV. He labeled this disorder as Internet Addiction Disorder. Among all behavioral addictive traits the Internet stands out for its relevance to the future and its promise of potentially delivering harmful results to millions as access to the Internet rises globally. The capacity of the Internet for socialization is a primary reason for the excessive amount of time people spend having real-time interactions using e-mail, discussion forums Ms Sneha Mankar Clinical Instructor Sinhgad College Of Nursing Problem Statement ―A study to assess the causes of internet addiction among internet dependent employees at selected workplaces.‖ Objectives 1- To assess the causes of internet addiction among internet dependent employees at selected workplaces. 2- To find out the association between causes of internet addiction among internet dependent employees at selected workplaces for demographic variables. Accepted In November 2014 Materials and methods The study was conducted in the selected workplaces of pune. Review of literature: gave the researcher indepth complete concrete and profound broad base knowledge of the research topic in detail to identify the problem exists related to topic and to identify the need of study. The conceptual framework of this study is based on Hildegard Peplau‘s interpersonal theory. (1952-1988). Research approach adopted for this study was Mixed Research approach (i.e. In Qualitative study – Phenomenological Realistic Design & In Quantitative study – Non Experimental – Exploratory Descriptive Design). ©2014. The sampling technique used in the study was non-probability convenient sampling technique. Tool: The researchers used Semi-structured Questionnaire consists of Body Mass Index Assessment scale, Demographic data of adolescent school children, Semi-Structured questionnaire on– I: Dietary pattern assessment, II: Physical activities assessment, III: Psychosocial aspects. The validity of the tool was obtained by giving it to the experts from Nursing fields, Psychologist, Statistician and experts from Department of Psychiatry. Reliability was assessed using Karl Pearson Correlation coefficient method. The Pearson‘s correlation coefficient was found to be 0.75 for the Reliability of the tool. The tool was found reliable with score of 0.93 with a method of test retest. Pilot study was conducted in selected work places of administrative offices from 3rd October to 5th October 2013 and 6 samples were selected by non-probability convenient sampling technique, based on the inclusion & exclusion criteria to assess the feasibility of the study and to decide the statistical analysis and practicability of research. The results summary of ANOVA are tabulated below in table form. Since p-values corresponding to designation and income per month are small (less than 0.05). Conclusion Many individuals fulfill internet addiction criteria within the first six months of using the Internet because of these they initially report feeling to intimate by the computer but gradually feel a sense of ‗competency and exhilaration from mastering the technology and learning to navigate the applications quickly by visual stimulation‘. Analysis of data shows that some of the demographic variables are having significant association between the causes of internet addiction among internet dependent employees. This study could help in knowing the causes about the internet addiction in the working employees & how they can come out of this problem by giving them information on its prevention.
