Mosquito larvae (wrigglers) about 1 to 3 days after a female lays eggs on or near standing water. In
about another week, an adult mosquito will emerge. This sample was taken in a Yankton County
community from under a bridge.
Larviciding provides mosquito control before they reach the adult stage by interfering their normal
metamorphoses, to prevent the larvae from becoming breeding, biting adults. This in turn will reduce
the need for adulticides (fogging).
Yankton County will provide larvicide, free of charge, on a first come first served basis, to communities
within the county. We will continue this program while supplies last. Contact us at 605-260-4473 or
