PRESIDENTS' MESSAGE
MAY, 2010
It’s the 1st of May, and all the bad weather is supposed to be gone, but just look outside! It’s still
like winter. When will the weather be good enough to allow us to get our cars on the road? Last
month I attended the Bakersfield swap meet, and it was bigger than ever, however, we noticed
quite a few no-shows in the spaces. I don’t know if this is due to the economy or something
else. As you know, this meet is sponsored jointly by the Horseless carriage Club and the local
Model T club. It has always been a very good place to find that special T part that you need, but
this year, the pickings were pretty slim for T’s. You can’t hardly believe how much brass was
evident. Almost every stall had some type of brass lamp , horn, or windshield part. Another surprise to me was that there was not one T vendor evident. There was one with Model A parts,
and Replacement Part were there, but no others.
Speaking of swap meets, don’t forget the Monroe meet, and possibly volunteer to help with our
booth. This has always been great for the club, and does give us a little bit of money for the
treasury, to say nothing about the friendship of other members for the period of time that you can
spend in the booth. It is also a great way for the public to know about our club.
I was not at the last meeting, but I am told that Jim Cunningham made a spectacular presentation and talk about how he worked in the forest as a timber cruiser, selecting trees to be used as
poles. His talk raised so much interest from the members that it ran over ½ hour. It seemed that
everyone had a question, and he was able to answer them all.
Last, but not least. Our meeting was scheduled for the Eagle Crest restaurant in Arlington; however, they have shut down and closed the doors. Hopefully, elsewhere in this issue you will find
an article by Larry Mann as to where and when the May meeting will be. I know that he is working on it as I type this, as the closing was very sudden. Be sure to check. Remember, the May
meeting WILL NOT be held at the Eagle crest as advertised.
Later, Harold

PSC MEETING MINUTES
SOUTHCENTER SIZZLER
SATURDAY, APRIL 17, 2010
Co-President Donna McGinnis called the meeting to order at 12:15 with 24 members present.
Donna thanked everyone for making it to the meeting and then asked if we had any new members present.
Steve Tomaso made a motion to approve the minutes from the March meeting. George Grimm seconded
the motion and it passed.
Treasurers Report: Ann was not present for the meeting but left a message with our co-president that all
is well. We had some money going out to pay for our booth at the Swap Meet and some for miscellaneous items for the club.
Sunshine: JoAnne was not present but sent word that we have no members needing cards and that everyone is well and getting better. She also said that if you know of anyone of our members needing a
card, please give her a call or send an email.
Safety: Duane Costa talked about the use your hand signals and how early hand signals were quite different from the ones we use today. He stressed how important it is to use your hand signals correctly. A
lot of our T’s do not have signals so he stressed the point of getting in the habit of using them. Mike
McGinnis talked about the importance of using your brakes correctly on your T’s. Do not push on them
and hold them down, rather, pulse them while going down a steep hill. He also stated that when we are
on a tour, before we get started remind everyone to pulse your brakes.
Tours: We had our first tour of the season, the third annual Tiptoeing Through the Tulips tour and it was
very successful in spite of the colder weather. There was a mixed bag of cars ranging from a 1916 Couplete to a 51 Bentley. The tulips were in full color and a good time was had everyone who made the tour.
Everyone thanked George Grimm for letting us use his farm for parking our cars and trailers.
Events: Dwaine Engler had a signup sheet for the swap meet coming up. There is still a lot of room for
times to work in the booth. Please give Jerry or Dwaine a call if you would like to sign up for your time
slot. Dwaine stated we will be picking up parts if needed. Call Ray Moore, Dwaine Engler or Jerry Wrolstad to have your parts picked up.
Stores: Nothing new to report. Give Dwaine Engler a call or send an email if you would like something
from the store.
Web Site: Larry is still looking for photos of you and your car to put on the web site. The comment was
made that Larry is doing a great job!
Insurance: Donna talked about how our club insurance works. She stated that the insurance does not
cover our T’s or accidents we have during tours, rather it is there for incidents during our meetings. There
seemed to be some questions and Donna answered them quite well. Some discussion followed on providers of Antique Car insurance. We all thanked Donna for her knowledge of insurance and the time she
spends on it.
Old Business: There was not old business to discuss.
New Business: There was a jacket donated to the club and it could be picked up for a donation to the
club. Dick Borton got the jacket and made a nice donation to the club.
5
It was discussed that our own T-Oiler should be entered in the national as an example. Our members
that put the time and effort into the Oiler do such a good job we will be entering it in the National as an
example.
Raffle Prizes went to the following:
Ray Moore
Jon Regalia
George Wood
Diane Tomaso
Skip Arneson
Donna McGinnis
Badge Drawing: Corrine Putaansuu was drawn. $55.00 was in the pot but Corrine was not present.
Bob Allen moved that we adjourn the meeting, George Grimm seconded the motion. The meeting was
adjourned.
After the meeting Mike McGinnis introduced our guest speaker, Jim Cunningham. Jim gave us a wonderful talk on utility poles. He has been in the business most of his life. He spoke of how times have
changed but the making of the poles is still largely done by hand. He demonstrated how he uses some of
the tools in the trade. He shed a new light on the utility pole business. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experiences with the club.
