Climatograph

Climatograph
Name ______________________________
Period _____ Date __________
Purpose: Create a climatograph of your local precipitation and temperature. Then
determine which biome you live in by comparing the climatograph you create to those of
the major biomes discussed in the textbook.
Procedure:
A – On a separate piece of graph paper create a bar graph of the precipitation data:
Month
January
February
March
April
May
June
July
August
September
October
November
December
Precipitation
in cm


Put a title at the top of the graph “Climatograph of
Mountain Home, Idaho”

Label left side “Precipitation in cm”.

Label increments along left side from 0-50 in even
divisions.

Label bottom “Months”.

Label the 12 months in even increments across
the bottom of the graph.

Fill in a bar for each month’s data.
B – ON THE SAME GRAPH create a line graph for the average monthly temperatures.
Month
January
February
March
April
May
June
July
August
September
October
November
December

 Label the right side of your graph “Temperature in
˚C”
 Label increments along the right side of your
graph from -60˚C to 40˚C in even increments.
 Fill in data points for each month.
 Connect the points with a line from January to
December. Do not extend the line past the data
points that are recorded in the data table.
C – Answer questions on the back of this paper, then staple graph to back and turn in.
Answer the following questions using your graph and pgs 146-163 of the textbook.
1. What are the coldest months in Mountain Home, Idaho?
2. What months do we get the least precipitation in Mountain Home, Idaho?
3. View the 7 major biome climatographs on pages 146-163. Compare your graph to
these graphs and decide which biome you live in.
4. What aspects of your graph made you chose the answer you did for number 1?
5. If any, what were the differences between your graph and the biome you chose?
Be specific.
6. Which biome gets the most annual precipitation?
7. Which biome has the lowest average temperatures?
8. Which biomes show signs of having seasons based on temperature?
9. Which biomes do not have temperature based seasons, but do have wet and dry
seasons?
10. Which biome has the most consistent temperature year-round?
Staple your graph to the back of this paper and turn in.
