How to use virtual calculator



There are two screens at the top. The top box indicates the sequence of the keys
pressed (not the actual calculations) and is just for reference. The bottom box indicates
the result of the calculation.
The rights hand side contains all the numbers and simple operations like addition,
subtraction, square root etc. The left hand side contains all the scientific functions and
operations like trigonometric functions, log, factorial etc.
In physical calculator, if we want to find the value of sin 45, we first press sin and then
45. But in this calculator, we will have to first press 45 and then sin. That means to use
any function, we will first enter the numeric value and then we will press that function
key.
Keys that will not be used by Mechanical Engineers:
mod : This function calculates the remainder of any
division.
Eg. 9, mod, 6 will give you the result 3. That means 9
divided by 6 and remainder is 3.
Exp : this key is used to put zeros behind a value.
Eg. 5, Exp, 3 will give you the result 5000.
log2x : This key is used to find the value of log with base
2 of any number.
x : This key is to find mod of any value.

To evaluate 5 ,
You need to press 5,  ,  . So don`t forget to press  . If you press 5,  screen will show you the
value of  , not 5  .
Same thing goes for e.

Memory keys (MC, MR, MS, M+, M-) :
MS – Saves a value in memory.
MR – Recalls the saved value.
MC – Clears the memory.
M+ - Adds any value in the saved value. Eg. Suppose you have saved 10 in memory. Now if you
press 6 and M+, it will add 6 in 10. So now the new saved value in memory will be 16.
M- - Subtracts any value from the saved value.

Press 22, +/-, 5 , =, sin

To evaluate log3 5 ,
Press 5, log x y , 3
Some useful tips:

5  106  3  109
(2  103 )3  4  103
If you have an equation like this, first solve all the 10 to the power terms manually. It will make
the equation shorter to write.
5  106  3  109
5  3
106  109
5  3

You cannot solve quadratic equations using virtual calculator. So remember how to do it
manually:
ax 2  bx  c  0
 b  b 2  4ac
x

eg. x  6 x  5  0
x
( 6)  ( 6)2  4  1  5

You cannot solve simultaneous equations using virtual calculator. So remember how to do it
manually:
Eg.
4 x  y  10
2 x  3 y  12
First eliminate x or y from the equations. For this example we will eliminate x by multiplying 2 in
second eqn and subtracting it from first eqn-
4 x  y  10
4 x  6 y  24
0  7 y  14
y  14
Now put the value of y in any of the two equations and find out the value of x.

Eg.
2(1  0.3)
Use
Here, first solve denominator 2(1  0.3) , then press
