The guest side of our website continues to be redone so that it represents the energy that our Club portrays. Since potential members search the web before doing anything else, improving the guest side of the website is a top priority. Our Facebook page continues to be updated with all of the activities that are available through the Club and if you haven't, please go on to our page and “like us.” This helps us with Google searches and our goal to become the number 1 search for private golf clubs in San Diego. If you have any ideas on ways to attract new members, please let us know. Membership is the lifeblood of our Club and our goal is to reach a point where we have a waiting list of people wanting to join. With everything this club provides, that shouldn't take too long. GOLF & SOCIAL NEWS
THE INVITATIONAL
Don’t miss out on The Country Club of Rancho Bernardo’s premier event, “The Invitational,” scheduled for June 21st
through June 23rd. Entry forms are now available in the Pro Shop to reserve a spot for you and your guest. This is a great
golf event, with new welcome gifts, superb meals, and a grand awards dinner where you can celebrate the weekend with
your spouses. “The Invitational” is a competitive event with a party atmosphere where Members can invite their special
guest to experience the Club and participate in this annual event.
The 2012 event starts on Thursday with the entire field of teams competing in a Sweeps event followed by a ‘Horse Race,’
where you and your partner will compete in an alternate shot format over holes 1, 2, 8, and 9. The Invitational
Championship will begin on Friday with three nine hole ‘matches’ within flights and concludes Saturday with two nine hole
‘matches.” Flight winners and a wild card (most points won on second day by a non Flight winner) will then compete
against one another in an alternate shot format aggregate Shootout for the title of “The Invitational” Champions. Since
instituting this format to determine the Champion, we have had several sudden death playoffs with last year having three
teams that went to the fourth sudden death hole, won with an “Eagle” 3 on number 18!
This year the Committee has adopted a format for equalizing partners that have a handicap spread of more than 12 strokes.
If the difference in handicaps between partners is greater than 12 strokes both partners will be reduced by 10%, rounded to
the nearest whole number. A ‘23’ handicap playing with an ‘8’ handicap will not have to play down to a ‘20’ to be within 12
strokes; however, the ‘8’ will become a ‘7’ and the ‘23’ becomes a ‘21’ with the 10% adjustment applied.
Don’t delay, sign up now!
Rick Lindsay, Tournament Chairperson
Clint Whitehill, PGA, Head Golf Professional Congratulations to Haley Moore, age 13, Granddaughter of Stan DeCosmo, for being selected 1st Team All‐American on the Future Collegiate World Tour for 2011‐2012 in the 13‐18 year old division! PAGE 3

The Tuesday AM Group
One of the groups not featured last year is “The Tuesday AM
Group.” The coordinator is Mark Klug and this group usually
has 3 or 4 foursomes tee it up around 7:45am every Tuesday
with everyone kicking in $5 for their ‘Tin Whistle’ every week.
Handicaps range from 15 to 30 and they always play the Silver
Tees. As with other groups, it’s a great way for new members to
get to know fellow members and share some camaraderie and
team competition. And an added plus is they get to enjoy a nice
lunch afterwards.
“WHAT’S A NOMAD?”
Have you heard the word NOMADS mentioned at the club and
wondered who or what they were all about? This is a men’s
group from CCRB that play a different public course one
Thursday a month and in November take their wives to a 3-day
golf event in Palm Desert. The very beginning of this “gang” of
golfers, as related by long time member Bill Smith, should be
told for all to remember. In 1968 three CCRB Members Vinnie
Reeves, Pharis McFerren, and Bill Pryce met to start a traveling
group of men to play a various courses throughough the county.
They were all under a 12 handicap, played every other
Thursday, and the prizes were golf balls. In the early 1970’s,
they started a fall mixed event with the wives, but after a couple
less than desireable trips, the group elected to go to the Palm
Springs area. Hence the tag NOMAD DESERT SAFARI was
forever bestowed. Currently the NOMADS consist of 20
“regular” members making a 5-foursome tee time schedule and
there are about 30 members on the “sub” list to fill in when
regulars have other obligations, vacation, bad backs, etc. There
is currently no handicap limit, but the average is about 15. The
NOMAD leader structure is set up on a rotation system that
gets everyone involved. A normal attrition rate means as players
leave the regular list, a sub that has played for a while will be
moved into the vacated regular spot. Rookie regulars will
eventually take their turn picking the six golf courses to play
(Jan-Jan) or (Jul-Dec) and setting up the tee times for the 20
players. After a successful stint as a 6-month course coordinator,
a regular member will eventually be asked to setup and
coordinate the annual Desert Safari in November which includes
about 60 attendees. If you have a question or are interested in
joining as a sub, contact one of the current Guidance Committee
members: Art DeLeo, David Wainwright, Buz Joly, Cliff Knight.

LADY NINER NEWS
Did you know that June is National Golf Month? Of
course you didn’t. I just made that up. Perhaps it
should be. It’s the middle of the year and the
weather is perfect for our favorite game. Let's
celebrate the lazy, crazy, hazy days of summer!
dinner only. We would love to see you. Check your
email for details on all the upcoming events.
The Invitational last month at Lomas Santa Fe
had to be rescheduled because of the capricious
May weather, but the weather was beautiful for the
Invitational at Bernardo Heights and the eight
Lady Niners made us all proud with our winners:
Kathy Cafiero, Nancy Schneider, and Sherryl
Schwanhausser. Thank you and congratulations
Ladies!!
Question: How can a player stop topping the ball?
Our new team attire was a big hit. Nancy S. was
gifted a pair of perfect matching socks, from one of
her team players who won a gift basket. Friendship,
that is what the inter-club means, friendship and
the joy of golf at some of the finest private courses in
the county. Who could ask for more?
Additional high fives go to our new Birdie Gals,
Nancy Schneider, Jeanne Knott, Kathy Cafiero, and
Kathy Hagenbach who had two Birdies this month.
Love seeing your flags flying high in the Birdie
Tree!!
Clint’s Clinic in April focused on the Tee Shot.
Clint covered the basics of the tee shot and swing.
Wow, did we learn so much! We had a great lesson
from the “master” and a printout review of the
lesson. Now the “ball is in our court” and that
means practice, practice, practice!!! Then, double
happiness when our balls fly high and long! Yesss!!
Here’s what’s happening in the lovely month of
June. Pencils ready! Mark those calendars so not
to miss any of these special events!
June 7th Thursday, Lomas Santa Fe Invitational
(Rescheduled from April rain out)
June 14th Thursday, Invitational at CCRB Lunch
at 11:45, Tee off at 1:00 p.m. This is a “biggie”
Ladies. Awards following golf. Wear your new team
Lady Niner attire, or choose colors that match the
mint, white and navy blue color scheme.
June 19th Tuesday!!! Men’s Invitational begins on
Thursday afternoon, June 21st. We have arranged
to have our regular play day Tuesday afternoon
at 1 PM. (You read correctly!) Change is good,
come and play.
June 24th Sunday, Lady Niners Couples Golf

This month’s Ask the Pro question is the most
frequently ask, according to Clint.
Answer: TOPPING the BALL , the most frustrating
strike of all!! Topping the ball means striking the
ball above its midline instead of having the leading
edge of the club get under the ball.
One sure way to keep up the topped ball fiasco is to:
1. Keep your head down by putting your chin to your
chest. 2. Deep bend your knees A LOT. 3. Finally,
fight to keep your left arm so straight it hurts.
These three things will guarantee a perfectly topped
ball every time. In fact do the opposite. The
frustrating miss-hit is usually caused by poor
balance which forces the player to stand up and pull
the arms close to the body. Please try this.
POSTURE - Stand tall and lift the chin off the chest
to a normal spine position. DO NOT keep your head
down. Make a fist and fit it between your chin and
your chest as a good reference. Next, pull the belly
button in and lift the tailbone to angle the hips
properly for good balance. Finally, stand a little
closer to the ball.
SWING - While making the backswing, focus on
turning the left shoulder slightly down toward the
ball. You should be able to do this now that your
chin is off your chest. Start the downswing with a
smooth transfer of weight to the left foot and swing
the forearms down toward your right foot.
PRACTICE - Gain confidence by hitting tees off the
grass when they are laying flat. If you can hit the
flat tee, the ball will seem much easier. Soon the
Topped Ball will be a swing of the past.
Tell me your success stories, I love to hear about
them.. Clint
Take advantage of the lovely June days, and several
special events have been planned.
Ladies, please mark your calendars! It would be
wonderful to have a lot of support for these events.
