Description
Cast iron Victorian pillar box, 1879-83. Cast
by A. Handyside foundry in Derby. Known as
an 'anonymous' box as it has no Royal
cypher, and with unusually high aperture. In
position of one of the original Penfold boxes.
Cast iron Victorian wall box. Small C type (39
x 82cm) with Royal cipher VR. Crack at top.
Cast by Eagle foundry - one of only three
examples in Jersey. Set in roadside boundary
wall opposite Douro Terrace.
Set into the Parish Church boundary wall is a
rare example of a Victorian wall box 186171, cast by Smith & Hawkes - one of only
four examples in Jersey.

Royal cipher VR. Cast by Smith & Hawkes
foundry - one of only four examples in
Jersey. Set in roadside boundary wall.

Church churchyard is a small type Victorian
wall box introduced in 1861; a rare casting
by Eagle foundry - one of only three
examples in Jersey.
Set into the roadside wall of St. Matthews
Convent is a rare example of a Victorian wall
box, cast by Smith & Hawkes (1861-71) - one
of only four examples in Jersey - with cipher
at top.
Set into the roadside boundary wall of Le Bel

Set into the roadside wall of the s-e
outbuilding of Les Huriaux is a small 'C' type
Victorian wall box, cast by Allen foundry.
Cast iron Victorian wall box (small C type
26.5 x 71.5cm) with Royal cipher VR. Cast by
Allen foundry (later repairs). Set in roadside
boundary wall.
Cast iron Victorian wall box (35 x 84cm) with
Royal cipher VR, cast by Allen. Set in
roadside wall of house (Carlton House). A
sub post office was established in Grouville
in 1853. Its location changed several times;
this post box remains from the sub office's
premises here in the 1960s.

(medium size B 35 x 84cm) - no door pull,
high aperture - with Royal cipher VR. Cast by
Allen foundry. Set in roadside boundary
wall.
Cast iron Edward VII wall box (35 x 84cm)
with elaborate Royal cipher EVIIR, cast by
Allen. The post box is in its original 1902
position (set into the wall of 39 Trinity Road)
– a sub post office established in Town Mills
that year. One of only eight Edward VII post
boxes in Jersey.
Cast iron Edward VII wall box (size B 34 x
80cm) with Royal cipher EVIIR, 1901-04 –
one of only eight examples in Jersey. Set
into stone roadside boundary wall.
Interesting streetscape value with adjacent
parish cannon, cast during reign of Edward
VI in 1551.

foundry 1901-04. One of only eight Edward
VII post boxes in Jersey. Set in granite
boundary wall by entrance to FB Fields –
playing fields and sports pavilion donated in
1928 by Sir Jesse Boot, later Baron Trent of
Nottingham, and named for his Jersey-born
wife, Florence.

by Allen foundry.
Set into the stone boundary wall of St James
Church is an Elizabeth II wall box, cast by
Carron foundry.
Cast iron Elizabeth II thick pillar box with
Royal cipher EIIR. Cast by Carron foundry one of only two examples in Jersey. In this
location since 1962, and associated with the
sub post office of this area since 1888.
Set into the roadside boundary wall of
Highland is an Elizabeth II wall box with
cipher at base, cast by Allen foundry.

office for St John established at this site in
1879.

example of historic post boxes in Jersey.
Located in Gorey village, with evidence of a
Postmaster and sub office since 1839.
