LCMS Summer Reading Assignment

I. Assignment
This assignment is a measure of students’ critical thinking and written skills. Read the following texts:





"A Retrieved Reformation" short story by O. Henry. Students will complete a SIFT analysis.
"If" poem by Rudyard Kipling. Students will complete a TPCASTT analysis.
"I Have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Students will complete a SOAPSTONE analysis.
A PDF of each text is provided on the LCMS website.
Use the Word document located on the LCMS website to complete the task.
II. General Information
Throughout the first week of school, all students will enroll into your Language Arts teacher’s eCampus website and
submit an electronic copy of the summer reading assignment. This electronic copy will be uploaded for electronic
feedback and to monitor any level of plagiarism.



Proper punctuation, capitalization, and conventions are expected; grammatical errors will result in points
deducted.
Working with others is strictly prohibited. Duplicate answers/assignments will be subject to a zero as per Student
Code of Conduct.
The summer reading assignment will count as a grade and is due by Friday, August 18, 2017.
