Lesson 4 Unit 1: Flipping & Scaling Models
Choose Material
From the List Wizard press the Choose Material button, Click Insultation Foam and select a thickness of
2”. Press the Continue button.
Load Virtual Model
From the List Wizard press the Load 3D Virtual Model button. Open
Space Needle.kmz. Note that the model is very small. This is because the space needle’s height is limited by the 2” thickness of the
virtual workpiece.
Models are placed in the bottom left hand corner
by default. This particular model is particularily
small. The virtual model height is larger than the
physical board thickness. Because of this height
limitation, 2Bot StudioTM will scale the model to fit
in the board.

View Options
The top of the 2Bot Studio program contains a toolbar for
the different view options. Click “perspective.” Note how
the view shifts to a perspective viewpoint. Click “top” to
change the view back to a topview. Note that the model
can only be rotated or flipped while viewing the top.
Flip the model
To increase the height and overall size of the model, it will need first to be flipped on its
side. Right click on the space needle and choose “flip right.” The model will now lay on its
side within the virtual workpiece.
Now that the model is flipped on its side,
the “height” of the space needle is no
longer limited by the 2” Virtual Workpiece thickness.
5
Scale the model
The values that determine the scale of the model are located in the virtual model properties window. Width, Length, and Thickness can be adjusted on the left-hand side of the
window. Highlight the “Thickness” value and change it to 02.000. This is the maximum
thickness allowed by the workpiece.
The thickness value
is located here.
6
Rotate the model
The space needle can be rotated as well as
flipped. Right click on the space needle and
choose “Flip Counter-Clockwise.”
The space needle can also be
rotated while right side up.
7
Send to Virtual ModelMaker
From the List Wizard click “Send Virtual
Workpiece to ModelMaker” Note that
while the space needle can be moved
around, it cannot be scaled, flipped, or
rotated while in the Virtual ModelMaker.

Make it!
From the List Wizard, click 2Bot it! Make sure the 2-sided
box is checked off in the Job Summary Window and the
model Quality slider should be adjusted to .02
Activity
1. Some models must be flipped and/or rotated to be cut correctly. Flip the space
needle in different directions and observe the results.
2. Different scales can result in a loss or gain in detail. Experiment with scale and
compare the differing detail.
