Read pages 12 to 15 of ‘SHP History Year 9’
1. Complete all parts of questions 1 and 2 on page 14. Make sure you write in full sentences.
2. Pick one of the historians on page 15. Write a speech for him in which he tries to persuade
people that he is right. Notice the topics in the picture. You must include paragraphs on at
least three of these in your speech.
3. What kind of evidence might the historian need to strengthen his argument? Suggest at
least three different types of evidence.
4. What might his opponent say in response? Explain at least two ways in which the other
historian might respond.
5. Finally, why do people argue about whether empires are good or bad? Why isn’t it a simple
question that everyone can agree on, like 2+2=4?
