Foremost in my thoughts is a grand thank you for your vote of
confidence on June 1. I greatly appreciate your prayers, well
wishes and support. The congregational approval was 97% and
the Presbytery of Geneva’s vote was 100%. Happily, I am the
soon to be installed pastor. However, my transition ministry skills
and knowledge will continue to be useful as we move forward. As
in nature, change is natural for all life to continue.
Jesus’ parables about agriculture relate well to the church’s
future. God, as the foolish, generous farmer sows seeds
everywhere, on fertile ground as well as rocky untilled soil.
God’s Word is like those tiny seeds scattered into everyone’s
hearts. Our responsibility is to prepare the soil by providing the
opportunities and nurturing spiritual growth using education,
worship and prayer (to name a few). Several sermons will
explore “Seeding, Feeding and Weeding” our spiritual garden.
We will be studying Jesus’ parables and lessons according to the
Gospel of Matthew throughout the summer (see sermon
schedule). May you bask in the Son, float upon your baptismal
waters and soak up the beauty of God’s creation.

SUMMER COMMUNION
The Worship Committee would like to let people know that we
will be celebrating Communion during the summer, on July 6th
and August 3rd. For the summer months,
Communion will be served in the front of the
Sanctuary. Those who are able, we ask that they
come forward to receive the sacrament, and upon
returning, spend some quiet time in prayer and
reflection. Those who are not able to come forward only need
to simply indicate and Pastor Deb will then go to them so that
they may be served from where they are seated.
Members seated on Fellowship Hall-side of the church and the
right side of the center pews will exit their pews and come down
the interior isle, move forward, receive the bread, the cup, move
to their right across the front of the Sanctuary and return to their
pew by walking up the exterior isle on Fellowship Hall-side.
Members seated on Washington Street -side of the church and the
left side of the center pews will exit their pews and come down the

FRIENDS AND FELLOWSHIP
Young adults have demanding careers, children in daycare or
with busy activity schedules, and eventful lives. This summer, the
Adult Education Committee will be forming a sharing group,
Friends and Fellowship, to provide an opportunity for young
adults to talk about how to manage such multi-faceted lives.
Faith, church, worship… are all words that we consider when we
picture the spiritual side of our lives. These are not words that
exist in a void, but that grow and are enhance within the
nurturing experiences of those with whom we share faith.
Friends and Fellowship will provide those nurturing experiences
that help manage life and enhance faith. Initially the group will
meet once a month on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 p.m. and
babysitting will be provided. Activities will be determined by the
interest of the group. Videos, books, board games, an invited
speaker or even a picnic in the park are all possibilities. If you
are interested in becoming a part of this group please contact
Diana Capron, the church office or any member of the Adult
Education Committee.
Have a nice summer. See you in September.

HYMNALS - THANKS YOUS
AND A FAREWELL
There have been 83 hymnal donations given in memory of or in
honor of loved ones. More than $1,200.00 has been raised and
returned to our Fine Arts Fund. We thank John Komara and Ti
Siebert for printing book plates for the hymnals. These book
plates have been placed in hymnals in both the chapel and the
sanctuary. Please notice them when you come to worship.
As we come to the end of this program year at church, I want to
thank musicians of all ages who have enhanced worship for our
congregation. Of special note are those in music leadership:
Sandy Campbell, Virginia Champlin, Kate Komara, and
Lorraine Jones.
Finally, we say a fond farewell to Sandy Campbell with gratitude
and sadness. She served as our sanctuary organist for almost 10
years and as the Adult Bell Choir director for several years. We
will miss Sandy but are glad she has found an organist position
close to her home. Blessings to Sandy!
Faithfully, Chris Wertman
Dear Church Family,
It looks like summer is finally here!!! I hope everyone can relax and
enjoy the warmth. Now that the warm weather is here I would like to
give you some reminders to keep you safe and healthy this summer.
DEHYDRATION is a major problem people visit the emergency
room for over the summer. When it is hot we tend to lose a lot of water
but we don’t replace it. Young children, people with chronic illnesses,
and the elderly are at high risk for dehydration. People do not
necessarily feel thirsty when they are low on water. A good gage of how
well hydrated you are is the color of your urine and the amount you put
out. If you suddenly seem to visit the bathroom less often and your
urine is a dark or amber color, better grab a glass of water and start
guzzling!! Signs of dehydration are headache, dizziness or
lightheadedness, feeling very tired, being very irritable, increased heart
rate and respiratory rate and in extreme cases confusion and blacking
out. So DRINK! (Water please, alcohol is dehydrating and can make
matters far worse.)
FOOD POISONING is about as miserable as it gets. Ask anyone
who has suffered through a bout of this, at some point you wonder if
you’d be better off dead. Be very careful at picnics, grad parties, etc.
Folks don’t always keep track of how long food has been sitting out in
the heat or that grills and tables have been cleaned well. Don’t eat
anything that should be kept cold or any grilled foods that should be hot
that are left out over 2 hours and are luke-warm. If it is over 90 degrees
and food is sitting out, after 1 hour it is off limits. Food items
containing fish and mayonnaise are often culprits in food poisoning.
SUNBURN is annoying, skin cancer can be deadly. A “savage tan”
may not be a healthy thing in later life. Don’t forget to use sunscreen
and reapply it as needed. I will have pamphlets out on the Health table
dealing with different skin cancers.
BATS (the flying type) are around. DO NOT IGNORE a bat bite or
scratch. I had to go through the rabies shot protocol when one ended
up getting stuck in my hair one night. They have a high rate of rabies
(which is a horrible way to end your life).
Insect stings and fun plants such as poison ivy and oak can really
goof up your summer plans. I will have information out on how to
avoid/ treat these summer pests as well.
Have a Wonderful Summer and God Bless, Beth
AHHH … Summer in the Finger Lakes! What could be better?
We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the country.
And Geneva is in full bloom with the lake, fine restaurants,
wineries and new businesses popping up all the time.
The warm days of summer offer many opportunities to get out
and about. Your summer adventures may find you sticking close
to home or hitting the road with family and friends. With many
of us on the go, we may not see your church family as often as we
would like.
The deacons want you to know that we are still available this
summer to help you get where you need to go. We welcome the
opportunity to assist you in getting to church on Sunday (9:30), to
doctor’s appointments, to the grocery store, etc. If you are in
need of transportation, please call Dan Schreher, 585 526-4756, or
Edna May in the Church office.
Wishing you all a beautiful and blessed summer!!!

The light turned yellow just in front of him. He did the right
thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have
beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.
The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn,
screaming in frustration, as she missed her chance to get through
the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup.
As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and
looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer
ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the
police station where she was searched, fingerprinted,
photographed, and placed in a holding cell.
After a couple of hours, a policeman approached the cell and
opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk
where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.
He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up
behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off
the guy in front of you and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed
the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life'
license plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper
sticker, and the 'chrome-plated Christian fish emblem' on the
trunk, so naturally....
I assumed you had stolen the car."
