8th February 2017
End of term
On behalf of everyone at Iron Acton
Primary School, I would like to wish
you all an enjoyable half term break.
We look forward to seeing everyone
back at school on Monday 20th
February. We have had another busy
yet productive term – thank you to all
of our hard working staff and children
for ensuring this.

Yate Rotary
We are very grateful to Yate Rotary
who have kindly donated £100 towards
the cost of setting up our fantastic
Forest Schools project. Please look on
the website gallery where you will see
a group of Reception children and Mrs
England receiving the money during
collective worship last week. Thank you
to Bonnie and Sienna who stood up
and explained to the whole school what
happens during Forest Schools.
Sainsbury’s vouchers
From after half term there will be a box
by the back door for any Sainsbury’s
vouchers you have collected. Last year,
some children form Eagles class
selected some sports equipment with
the vouchers collected.
Attendance
Last week’s attendance was as follows:
Kestrels – 98%
Falcons – 98.4%
Eagles – 95.38%
Well done Falcons for having the
highest attendance last week.

Well done to last week’s star learners,
who have been working incredibly hard
and making excellent progress. These

Theatre visit
Tomorrow the whole school will be
visiting the Village Hall to watch Angel
Heart Theatre perform Malina's Dream,
set in the Arctic North. This is the 4th
year Angel Heart have visited us and
the children always love their
performances. This is yet another
fantastic event made possible by
‘Friends’ – thank you!
Family service
Please come along to the family service
at St James the Less Church. This will
take place on Sunday 12th February,
9.30am.
Pancake Day menu
Clubs
Next term, clubs will run as follows:

Tuesday: gymnastics, football
Wednesday: KS1 games
Thursday: KS2 games, film and
cookery
Dinner money
One Tuesday 28th February, the
lunchtime menu will have a Pancake
Day theme.
Sausage Roll or Cheese and Onion Plait
Herby Potatoes
Bakes Beans
BBQ Sauce
Pancakes with assorted fillings
Fresh fruit
The cost of school dinners for the
whole of next term will be £68.
Safer Internet day
As you will be aware, the children have been busy learning about to stay safe
online. Last week, drama organisation, Unique Voice, worked with children in
Reception – Year 3 to explore key messages about staying safe. The Police spoke
to Year 4 – 6 about how to stay online too. Each class has been focusing on this
important aspect of safety through their Computing lessons too.
Mathletics
Our one year trial is due to end soon and we have decided not to continue using
mathletics for home learning from next term. This is as part of an overall review of
home learning which has been guided by conversations with the children as well as
responses to the parent questionnaire earlier in the year. Mathletics will still be
available for a short period for those who choose to use it at home. Alternative
strategies will be used to support home learning based on the class your child is in.
