Boys’BasketballHandbook2016–2017
President’sMessage
Welcome to another exciting season of high school basketball. On behalf of the BCHSBBA
Executive, I would like to thank you for all the time and effort you devote to supporting boys’
high school basketball in British Columbia. This past season marked our second consecutive year
where we were able to run all four of our championships at the same time at the Langley Events
Center. It was once again an extremely successful event and I would like to thank all of the
coaches, Executive, volunteers, and LEC as well as a very special thank you to all of the
Tournament Committees for their excellent service to our Association. Congratulations to 4A
Champions – Kelowna, 3A Champions – Southridge, 2A Champions – Collingwood, and 1A
Champions – Ron Pettigrew Christian.
This year we are again fortunate to continue our relationship with TELUS and I am pleased to
announce that we have extended this agreement through 2018. We will also continue to work
with BADEN who will be our official ball supplier through 2022. Both of these sponsors and
others within our province have been great supporters of boys’ high school basketball in BC.
The 2016 -2017 basketball season is quickly approaching. Please take the time to read this
Handbook and familiarize yourself with the online registration procedures available on the
Association website. Please remember that all teams MUST register with our association in
addition to registering with BCSS and all teams must also submit a team photo. Make sure you
check the Handbook as fines will be applied to teams not meeting submission deadlines (final
deadline Jan. 31) Feel free to contact me or other members of the Executive with questions or
clarifications. In addition, this book also contains contact information for all Zone Reps and
Committee members.
I would like to thank all of the coaches who took part in our extensive survey this past season.
We had a very strong response rate and your feedback will help direct the Executive as we plan
for the future of our association. One of the significant items from the survey was to update our
website; that process in now underway. We hope to announce a re-launch of the website shortly,
prior to the start of the season.
The website: www.bcboysbasketball.com contains a wealth of information and coaches are
encouraged to use the site on a regular basis. Thanks again to Ted Cusick and Tom Tagami for
their tireless efforts managing the site.
Our AGM for 2017 will be held on Saturday March 11th at 10:00am at the Langley Events
Centre Banquet Room with a coaches’ breakfast starting at 9:30am. In order for our association
to function properly and to improve communication it is imperative that we get a large turnout at
our AGM; I strongly encourage all coaches to attend. Two members of our executive will be
completing their terms this year and I encourage any of you who may be interested in joining the
executive to contact me. If you have a passion for high school boys basketball and you want to
work to help improve our association then please consider putting your name forward.
Good luck to all teams and coaches for the 2016 -2017 season.
Respectfully,
Paul Eberhardt, President, BCHSBBA
