CRPD Strawberry Food Truck Details
The Strawberry Food Truck is Columbus Recreation and Parks’ mobile mission to feed kids in our
community. Guest celebrity chefs feature special edition menus at events throughout Columbus in an effort
to raise money for the Columbus Recreation and Parks free summer meals and after school programs.
About the Free Summer & After School Meal Program:

The free summer meals program was started to make sure that kids who depend on receiving free
breakfast and lunch through the school year have something to eat during the summer.

Food trucks are a national best practice for providing meals to kids throughout the summer
because their mobility makes them easily accessible and, for teens especially, there is little stigma
attached to receiving a free meal from a food truck because they look cool!

The CRPD Strawberry Food Truck serves meals daily along with 240+ other food program sites. In
total, Columbus Recreation and Parks will serve approximately 600,000 free meals this summer.
About the Strawberry Food Truck’s Guest Chefs:

Columbus Recreation and Parks Department began featuring guest chefs in the Strawberry Food
Truck at community events earlier this summer. The income from these events ensures that
Columbus Recreation and Parks can continue to sustain programming, staffing and supplies at
summer food sites in our community.

Guest chefs were made aware of the opportunity to “host” the CRPD Strawberry Food Truck by
leaders in the food community and many jumped in with enthusiasm. The program has been
heavily supported by Kate Djupe of The Commissary.

Featured chefs have included Avishar of Middle West Spirits, Marcus Meachum of Steam, Clara and
Rocco Valentino of Buster Mac’s, Lara Yazvac of Two Top Consulting, Isidora Diaz of Bleu & Fig and
Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.

In its first summer, the CRPD Strawberry Food Truck has traveled throughout Columbus with a goal
of raising $10K during the 2016 season. 100% of proceeds will be donated to feed kids in our
community.

Upcoming Events:

The Strawberry Food Truck has 2 stops remaining for the 2016 season – Friday, August 19 at
Rhythm on the River in Bicentennial Park and Friday, August 26 at Craft Brew at the Zoo.

On Friday August 19, guest chefs Isidora Diaz and Lara Yazvac will offer a delicious yet down-home
menu featuring:
The Outlaw - a shredded beef sandwich topped with relish
Smoky Lemon Tater Salad
Purdy Pudding – strawberry and white chocolate bread pudding
Strawberry Horchata Popsicles by Rime Time Curiously Crafted Pops

On Friday, August 26, guest chefs from Cameron Mitchell Restaurants will serve a decadent menu
of desserts at Craft Brew at the Zoo.
