





1st Grade Mathematics
A guide to understanding what your child will know at the end of the school year.
Number Sense and Algebra
•
Writes, compares, and orders numbers to 120
•
Use ordinal numbers correctly (e.g., third in line)
•
Groups numbers into 10s and 1s using stick and circle drawings
•
Adds 3 or more one-digit numbers
•
Uses and explains strategies for addition and subtraction combinations
(to 9 + 9 and 18 - 9)
•
Solves and creates word problems for addition and subtraction
•
Creates and interprets bar graphs, picture graphs, tables, and tallies of data
Geometry
•
Identifies, compares, and sorts 2 and 3 dimensional figures according to geometric attributes

unknown number appears in a variety of positions

Adds 2-digit numbers using an algorithm
