The first is being organized by the Mauston iLead Charter School. The students have split up into teams to design and build a unique pumpkin smashing device, trebuchets and the like. Event attendees will then pay the student teams to smash, launch and splatter pumpkins. The team to earn the most money for their selected charity by obliterating the most pumpkins will win. The second program is a smash out cancer event. Manthey Salvage has generously donated a vehicle, painted orange, which participants can take one swing of a sledge hammer for a dollar. Proceeds are in memory of the late Cynthia Makowan, who was instrumental in launching and organizing the Annual Mauston Pumpkin Bash Event and died of brain cancer in 2013. If you are new to the event, it is a play on the phrase “Trick or Treat.” Families and friends park their vehicles (preferably decorated). The children (preferably in Halloween costumes) then go from car to car trick-or-treating. Basically it is tailgating and trick or treating combined into one. The benefit of this type of event is one central location, so children do not have to cross streets or walk an entire neighborhood to collect candy. Judging and prizes will take place for the best decorated vehicle and kids costumes. Parents of children planning to participate in the Costume Contest should plan to participate in Trunk or Treat. Do you have the guts! Juneau County Food Pantries and 4-H Clubs do! This year they are teaming up to “gut”, sell, carve, and light 1,000 pumpkins at the Pumpkin Bash. Help them achieve this goal by coming to the event, buying a pumpkin, and carving it. The best part… You get to name your own price on the pumpkin you choose. Don’t have any money…bring down a can or even a bag of nonperishable items. All proceeds for this event will go to Juneau County Food Pantries (split by % of households served). The goal is to carve and light over 1,000 pumpkins and raise over $5,000 at the event. This event, in connection with the Pumpkin Bash, will take place at Riverside Park on Saturday, Oct 11th, from 10am – 7pm. The event will include judges, awards and prizes, and a jack-o-lantern lighting along the Riverwalk. After the lighting there will be a movie in the park and participants will be able to pick up their pumpkins to take home. Come, support, and help us take on this excellent cause for our community.
