Strong Response Rubric for Peer Review dealing with Outcasts

Strong Response Rubric for Peer Review dealing with Outcasts United (see A&B p. 123)
In addition to the generic peer review questions explained in Skill 16.4, peer reviewers should address
these questions, and also try to make a useful comment on each paragraph in the draft:
Peer Review Questions
1. How appealingly do the title and introduction of the essay
set up the context of the topic of critique, convey the writer’s
interest, and lay a foundation the writer’s thesis? 10
2. How could the writer’s thesis statement be clearer in
presenting several focused points about the text’s ideas? 20
3. How could the writer’s thesis statement be able to address
at least one point more fully with the grain, and at least one
point more fully against the grain? 10
4. How could the body of the strong response follow the thesis
more closely? 10
5. How could each body paragraph have a better focus on one
main point? If there are multiple points in a paragraph, which
point seems to be the most interesting or contestable? 10
6. Where do you, the reader, need more detailed support or
clarification for the writer’s thesis and points? How could the
writer develop with-the-grain or against-the-grain points more
specifically? 20
7. Where could the writer work on the effectiveness and
clarity of source introductions, attributive tags, quotations,
and documentation? Is the author using short quotes or short
summaries from sources, and commenting on each with the
idea of tying it all back to the central thesis? 10
8. Are there any problems with MLA documentation in-text or
in the Works Cited? Is everything being cited properly for an
MLA audience? 10
