DCBID IS UP FOR RENEWAL
Help Keep Downtown Center
Safe, Clean, and Vibrant
The Downtown Center Business
Improvement District (DCBID) was founded
in 1998 to enhance the quality of life in the
Central Business District. As a Property
Owner and contributor to the DCBID,
your assessment funds have allowed us to
provide services, activities, and programs
that have vastly improved the safety,
cleanliness, and quality of life in the District.
In order for the DCBID to continue providing
you with these services, we must undergo a
renewal process. Your role in this process is
critical to the future of the DCBID. This Fall,
you will receive a petition in the mail with
the DCBID’s proposed management plan
for the next term, which will commence
on January 1, 2018. We need at least 50%
representation of the DCBID’s Property
Owners to sign and return this petition in
order to continue the renewal process.
As the process continues, you will receive
a ballot in the mail from the City Council
in April of 2017. We urge you to sign and
return this ballot by June, 2017. The receipt
of your signed ballot will be the final step
in the process for you as a Property Owner.
Your support will allow us to continue
our commitment to a safe, clean, and
economically robust Downtown.

BRAND NEW LOOK
The DCBID has a new
brand identity to
reflect the dynamic,
24/7 enthusiasm that
pervades every corner
of DTLA.
In June, the DCBID introduced a new
visual system including a new logo
for the DCBID and its DowntownLA.
com website and social media.
Designed by local Downtown
LA branding and design firm,
Ferroconcrete, the new branding
represents the tone, history, culture,
and new direction of Downtown LA,
and it gives the DCBID a distinctive
logo that raises awareness for and
builds a connection to ‘DTLA’ as a
destination. Additionally, the new
brand is bold and flexible, allowing
for the incorporation of imagery
and color to highlight the cultural
diversity and social vibrancy of the
area.
The current DCBID logo, which has
been in effect for over 10 years, will
be replaced with the updated look
across all touch points. From safety
and maintenance uniforms to research
reports and marketing materials, we
are excited to roll out the new and
improved DCBID branding.

BUILDING THE NEXT GREAT
INNOVATION DISTRICT
The DCBID and partners
promote DTLA as a
place of innovation and
creativity.
Downtown Los Angeles is rapidly
becoming a hub of creativity and
innovation across its diverse industry
sectors and vibrant population of
residents and workers. To better
understand and support this dynamic
evolution, the DCBID is collaborating
with the nation’s foremost experts
in this field, The Bass Initiative for
Innovation and Placemaking in
partnership with the Brookings
Institution and Project for Public Spaces,
on the Innovate DTLA initiative. A series
of workshops and research conducted
DCBID District News I Second Quarter, 2016
throughout the summer will culminate
in a report on Downtown’s future as an
“Innovation District” to be released in
October of 2016 during LA Innovation
Week. The goal of the initiative is to
promote DTLA as a place of innovation
and creativity to attract new office and
residential tenants to the area.
The initiative kicked off on June 22nd
with the Innovate DTLA Leadership
Symposium. Thought leaders in tech,
design, government, education, real
estate, and more analyzed what crucial
assets DTLA already possesses, how
to enhance them, and how to cultivate
what is needed.

CITY OF LA MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE
If your business operates in the City of Los Angeles, and you have 26 or more
employees, the minimum wage you are required to pay increased to $10.50 per
hour effective 7/1/16. This applies to any employee who preforms at least two
hours of work per week. Tips are not counted toward the minimum wage. If
you have 25 or fewer employees, the increase does not take effect until 7/1/17.
Until then the minimum wage is the State mandated $10 per hour. Once the
increase takes effect, it will go up every year until it reaches $15 per hour.
