Answer: A challenge to make and drink a glass of juice at least once a day. If you accept the challenge, you have to juice at least once a day for 7 days straight. What’s the purpose? Answer: Get into a healthy habit of juicing. The purpose of this is to get you into the healthy habit of juicing more often and living the juicing lifestyle. If you do this for 30 days straight, you’re going to thank us. Maybe you’ll figure out why someday. What will I be having? Answer: a freshly made green juice each day for seven days. It will be comprised of mostly green vegetables, often with some carrot, beetroot or coconut water to sweeten it a little, but no fruit. What?! Why No Fruit? Fruit contains a lot of fructose, which is very acid-forming, inflammatory and affects the body as negatively as any other sugar (word ending in -ose). The human body has evolved over millions of years to have around 25g of fructose per day of only in-season fruit, and for us to have the whole fruit, fibre included. Juicing the fruit removes the fibre, and once you remove fibre from fructose it’s effect on the body is very different to when you consume it with the fibre. Never consume fructose as a juice. When you consume fructose without fibre, the brain is not aware of the fructose consumption and doesn’t start the bodily processes to use or deal with it. This starts a chain reaction of very negative affects, including huge stress to the liver. PLUS, when juicing we consume a LOT MORE of everything than we’d normally eat, so there is the risk that you’d juice an insane amount of fructose compared to what you’d normally have. Remember, 25g per day is a good amount - but if you were to juice an apple, a pear and a handful live energized | the seven day juice challenge 2016 of grapes into a juice you’d be having a whopping 36g of fructose, with no fibre, in a single glass of juice. That’s almost as much sugar as a can of cola. Stick to the vegetables. One piece of in-season fruit in a smoothie would be fine - but that’s still got the fibre in there, so the brain recognises it and processes it properly. What do I need? Answer: A juicer. You need a juicer. Not a blender. Not a Nutribullet. A juicer. Plus you’ll need the ingredients listed in the shopping list above. Why can’t I use a blender? Answer: Because it’s not a juicer. Let me explain... Juicers make juice. Blenders make smoothies. A smoothie isn’t juice. Our recipes are made with juicers in mind. If a recipe tastes great juiced, it may come out gross or have a weird texture to it when blended. If you don’t have a juicer and still really want to do this, you can google “juicing with a blender” for a possible way to do it. The ninja/nutribullet/vitamix and similar blenders don’t juice, they make smoothies. Smoothies are absolutely awesome - but this is a juice challenge - and we’re sticking with juices because they have the single biggest impact on your health. Is this only for beginners? Answer: It’s for anyone that wants great energy, vitality and health. It’s a great way for beginners to get into juicing, but it’s also for people who have juiced plenty before and just want all of the shopping lists and recipes figured out for them. It’s also a fantastic way to challenge yourself to really get into a healthy habit of juicing, no matter what your experience is. Is this a juice fast/cleanse? Answer: No, absolutely not. We’re simply adding one green, alkaline vegetable juice to your daily diet to help you build the habit. The challenge is to drink at least one glass of juice a day. This shouldn’t be followed as a fast/ cleanse. live energized | the seven day juice challenge 2016 If you’re looking for a juice fast/cleanse, then look out for my Alkaline Reset Cleanse which will be coming in the next few weeks. And yep, doing this juice a day is the PERFECT preparation for that. Should I eat too or is this just juice? Answer: Eat! Definitely. Just add this juice to whatever you normally do on a daily basis. Again, if you’re looking for a juice fast/cleanse, then look out for my Alkaline Reset Cleanse which will be coming in the next few weeks. And yep, doing this juice a day is the PERFECT preparation for that. Can I store my juice? Answer: Yes. The popular belief is that juice can last for up to 72 hours in the fridge, in an airtight container. Yes, nutrients are lost overtime, but it’s an extremely slow process. We’re talking tiny fractions per hour, here. You’re going to hear “you have to drink it right away!” but tell them they’re wrong and that they can take it up with me :-) Can I use my own recipes? Answer: Yes. We give you a suggested shopping list and recipe plan, but you’re free to use any recipe you want. The challenge is to drink at least 1 glass of juice a day. How you accomplish that is up to you! Just try to include a wide variety of vegetables and stay away from fruit. What if I miss a day? Answer: Who cares? Even though the goal is to juice every day for 7 days, don’t worry if you miss a day! Just keep going! If you juice for 5 of the 7 days, you’ll still have given your body all of those healing, revitalising, cleansing, alkaline nutrients for 5 days! What a gift! Does this challenge cost money? Answer: Nope, it’s all FREE. You just need a juicer and the foods. We just want you to live the lifestyle with us! You just have to buy all of the produce. live energized | the seven day juice challenge 2016 Can I do it with a friend? Answer: Yes! Just get them to join the challenge with you and tag both @liveenergized and your friend on Instagram when you post - it will be great to keep you BOTH accountable. Can I do it alone? Answer: Yes! Just because each day makes the minimum amount for 2 people doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the full yield each day for yourself. Do I drink it with a meal? Answer: If you want. If you’re drinking the whole batch (2 glasses) in one sitting, you could use that as a meal replacement. Otherwise, drink it with a meal or have a glass as a snack. Any other questions?
