Vocabulary Activities: Choose 4 out of the 6 activities to complete; these will help you learn the words
better for this unit “manu” meaning “hand”. You can only use the words once; however, depending
upon the activities you choose, you may need to use one or two words twice. PLEASE note, for the
crossword, you will have to use ALL the words.
1. Use your Words in Context: (3 words x 3 different types of sentences (declarative,
interrogative, demonstrative, and imperative)
a. Choose 3 vocabulary words.
b. Create 3 sentences per word:

An imperative sentence (command)

A declarative sentence (statement)
-
A interrogative sentence (question)
-
An exclamatory sentence (using an exclamation point)
c. Make sure you are using the words correctly according to definition and part of speech.
d. When you are done, you should have 9 sentences (3 words x 3 types of sentence types)
2. Write a paragraph (3 words used)
a. Choose 3 of your vocabulary words.
b. Write a paragraph using these three words in the correct context (vocabulary definition).
c. Your paragraph has to use one of the following genres

Fairy tale

Fable
-
Journal
-
Diary
-
Descriptive essay
-
Speech
-
Memoir
-
Biography
-
Autobiography
3. Create a Visual (3 words—a picture)
a. Choose 3 of your vocabulary words.
b. Draw a picture to teach or represent the meaning of the word visually.
c. You must write the “word” on the back side of the sheet along with your name.
d. Make sure you picture are colored and NEAT!!
4. Create a Crossword Puzzle (use all the words)
a. Using all of the vocabulary words and definitions, create a crossword puzzle (see example).
b. Use graph paper for your crossword.
c. Complete in pencil fist , then outline in pen
d. For portion of your crossword that lists the definitions DOWN and ACROSS , write it below
the crossword puzzle.
e. Make sure to include the entire definition in the clues of DOWN and ACROSS.
f.
Make sure you have your name and class on the back of the crossword.
5. Create a POEM to teach the MEANING of the word (2 words used)
a. Choose 2 of your vocabulary words.
b. Create a poem for each of them, teaching the Meaning of the word.
c. Make sure it is NEAT and MAKES SENSE.
d. Any structure can be used:

e. If you prefer, you can create a SONG for your POEM, teaching the definition:

Make sure you are prepared to sing your song if you choose to make a song.
6. Usage in Vocabulary (using dictionary—2 words)
a. Choose 2 of your vocabulary words.
b. Look them up in the dictionary and find out if they are used as different parts of speech and
have a different definition.
c. Create two sentences per word.
- One sentence must use one definition and part of speech.
- The other sentence must use a different part of speech from above and have a
different definition.
- Underneath each sentence you write, make sure you indicate the part of speech used
and the definition (written under the sentence).
-When you are finished, you should have four sentences total.
