AEPA Performance Futurities - The Class – The futurity classes are comprised of two sections.
The first section is a ‘pattern’ (see AEPA Web site for the AEPA Pattern) that is performed
individually by each horse/rider. Each horse is judged per the AEPA Manifesto and scored
using the AEPA Pattern Score Card that is located on the AEPA web site. Up to 10 of the
highest scoring horses in the pattern section move forward to the second section of the class. The
second section is an English Performance comparative rail class where all horses are judged at
the same time. The judging will result in the placing of up to 10 horses from 1 to 10. All horses
receive a Top Ten award. The 1st place horse receives a National Championship and the 2nd
place horse receives a Reserve National Championship. There may be less the 10 horses in the
rail class.
NOTE: The pattern class results are not used in the placing of the horses in the rail class.
Any horse that is excused or dismissed or disqualified from the Pattern class will not be scored
and will not be eligible to show in the AEPA Rail Class. If a horse is disqualified after the
completion of the pattern class and AHA and the AEPA are notified of the disqualification prior
to 12:00 PM the day of the Rail Class then the 11th place horse will move up into 10th place in
the pattern class and show in the Rail Class. If the Rail Class order of go has already been
established the new 10th place horse will enter the ring in the go position of the disqualified
horse.
Any horse that does not show back in the Rail Class will not receive prize money.
If there are scratches from the Rail Class NO horses will be moved forward, from the pattern
class, into the rail class.
Any horse that is excused or dismissed or disqualified from the Rail Class will not receive prize
money or a placing in the class.
Any horse that is disqualified after the Rail Class will not receive prize money or a placing in the
class. AHA and USEF rules apply i.e. Horses may have their feet measure after the class,
Horses may be drug tested after a class.
If a horse is disqualified from the Futurity Rail Class then all horses placing below the
disqualified horse move up one place in the placing’s and receives the payout associated with the
new placing.
An AEPA representative may choose to meet with the riders at the U.S. National Show prior to
one or both sections of the Futurity class. During this meeting the AEPA representative will
advise the riders of class procedures, rules, and how the horses are to be presented.
JUDGING
The U.S. Nationals English Judging panel of 3 Judges plus 2 additional US Nationals Judges will
be used to Judge the Patten Class. The 3 US Nationals English panel Judges will be used to
Judge the Rail Class. The AEPA will provide judging instructional information to the U.S.
National Horse show management prior to the show. The U.S. National show management will
provide this information to the Judging panel. At no time will the AEPA be in direct contact
with the Judges.
CLASS RULES
A Horse gets 1 Time Out for the Pattern Class and 1 time out for the Rail
Class. A Time Out in the Paddock before the Patter Class counts as a Pattern
Class time out. A time out in the Paddock before the Rail Class counts as a
Rail Class Time out. If a second Time Out is called the horse is excused from
the class.
Paddock
Problems with tack or a thrown shoes might occur in the paddock while a horse
and rider are preparing for entry into the ring for the Pattern Class in their assigned
order of go. If a horse is unable to enter the ring due to a tack problem or thrown
shoe a Time Out will be granted to resolve the problem.
For a Pattern Class tack problem there is a Time Out charged and the horse will
be granted a normal gate hold while the rider resolves the tack problem. When
the tack problem is resolved the horse enters the ring in the assigned order of go.
NOTE: This counts as a Pattern Class Time Out, and there is only 1 Time out
in the Pattern Class.
For a Pattern Class thrown shoe there is a Time Out charged and the horse is
‘pulled out’ of the horses assigned order of go position and the class proceeds, i.e.
the next horse in the order of go enters the ring. The horse that lost the shoe will
be assigned a new order of go position once the shoe has been nailed on and the
horse is able to once again be ridden. The horses new order of go will be after the
next 2 horses that have completed the full pattern, i.e. Horse #5 is in the ring and
the thrown shoe is nailed on horse #3 and horse #3 is able to be ridden. Horse #3
new order of go will be after the next 2 horses (after horse #6 & #7) that are
waiting to enter the ring. If a rider of a horse that has thrown a shoe is riding more
than 1 horse in the pattern class then there will be a minimum of 1 horse between
the rider’s horses when a new order of go position is assigned. NOTE: This
counts as a Pattern Class Time Out, and there is only 1 Time out in the
Pattern Class.
If a problem with tack or a thrown shoe occurs in the Paddock area PRIOR to
horses entering the ring for the Rail Class a Time Out is charged to the horse
with the problem and the Class will receive a Gate Hold. The class will proceed
after the problem has been resolved. NOTE: This counts as a Rail Class Time
Out, and there is only 1 Time out in the Rail Class.
If a problem with tack or a thrown shoe occurs in the Paddock area AFTER horses
have started entering the ring for the Rail Class a Time Out is charged to the
horse with the problem and the remaining horses will continue to enter the ring.
The horse charged with the Time Out enters the ring last. If the problem has
not been resolved by the time that all remaining horses have entered the ring then
the Class and horses in the ring will be under a Time Out. When the problem in
the paddock is resolved the remaining horse enters the ring and the class is called
to order. NOTE: This counts as a Rail Class Time Out, and there is only 1
Time out in the Rail Class.
Riders are responsible to be in the In Gate Paddock for entry into the ring when
they are called, see AEPA Order of Go Rules, Pattern Class Rules and the Rail
Class rules. A Time Out or Gate Hold will Not be granted to riders that are not in
the ‘in gate’ paddock area. If a rider misses their entry into the ring then they are
considered to have missed the class.
NOTE: For the Pattern Class, if a horse unknowingly enters the ring with an
existing problem, i.e. tack problem or thrown shoe, then the horse will return to the
Paddock under a TIME OUT where the problem is resolved. Once the problem is
resolved the horse will return to the ring per Paddock rules and the judging of the
Horse or Class will begin. For the Rail Class, if horse unknowingly enters the
ring with an existing problem, i.e. tack problem or thrown shoe, the horse remains
in the ring, and after all horses have entered the ring, the rider may call a time out
to resolve the problem.
If the AEPA determines that a problem cannot be resolve under the AEPA rules
than the AEPA may request that AHA make a determination on how the problem
is to be resolved, i.e. AHA may make the determination that a horse or rider is
unable to compete in the class.
An AEPA representative will be present in the Paddock Area for the Patten
Class and The Rail Class to address any problem that occurs.
Pattern Class
The horses will be Judged according to all AHA and USEF rules and all AHA rules for AHA
Class 91 Arabian English Pleasure Junior Horses for the AEPA Arabian Horse Times Arabian
Futurity and AHA Class 532 HA/AA English Pleasure Junior Horse for the AEPA Halcon
Furniture $50,000 Half-Arabian Futurity, with the following exceptions:
The horses will be presented one at a time riding the AEPA Pattern and Judged per the AEPA
Manifesto and scored using the AEPA Score Card. Class 91and Class 532 class specifications
will not be used.
Horses can wear a martingale with a snaffle bit or a full bridle.
Any Bit that is USEF legal for any Arabian English Division class is legal for the AEPA classes.
If a horse throws a shoe during the Pattern Class the rider may call a Time Out and exit the ring
to have the shoe nail on OR the rider can continue with the remainder of the Pattern Class. If a
rider exits the ring to resolve the thrown shoe problem the horses current scoring in the Pattern
Class does not count. When the thrown shoe problem is resolved the horse is assigned a new
order of go position as described in the Paddock rules. When the Horse returns to the ring the
scoring of the horse begins with a NEW score card.
If there is a tack problem the rider can call a Time Out to resolve the problem and then continue
with the Pattern Class.
As the horse enters the ring it is suggested that the horse’s number, horse’s name, rider’s name,
sire’s name, dam’s name, and breeder’s name be announced. After the horse’s score has been
tallied it is suggested that the score be announced after the current horse being judged leaves the
ring.
There will be no line up. However, if the Call Judge observes a horse with a bloody mouth the
Call Judge can request that the horse remain in the ring or return to the ring for inspection. If a
horse has a bloody mouth then AHA and USEF rules apply.
A rider can ride up to 3 horses in the Pattern Class.
A horse’s entry into the ring, for the pattern class, is determined by the AEPA Class Order of
Go Rules. The Order of Go will be established the day before the Pattern class is run.
The AEPA class sponsor may be present in center ring for the Pattern Class and the Rail Class.
The AEPA president will be present in center ring for the Pattern Class and the Rail Class to
represent the AEPA. If the president is not able to be in center ring then the president may
appoint an individual to be in center ring to represent the AEPA.
Rail Class
The horses will be judged according to all AHA and USEF rules and all AHA rules for AHA
Class 91 Arabian English Pleasure Junior Horses for the AEPA Arabian Horse Times Arabian
Futurity and AHA Class 532 HA/AA English Pleasure Junior Horse for the AEPA Halcon
Furniture Half-Arabian Futurity, with the following exceptions:
The horses will be Judge using the AEPA manifesto. Class 91and Class 532 class specifications
will not be used.
Horses can wear a martingale with a snaffle bit, or a full bridle.
Any Bit that is USEF legal for any Arabian English Division class is legal for the AEPA classes.
If a horse throws a shoe in the ring during the Rail Class the rider may call a Time Out and the
farrier will be brought to the ring to nail on the shoe OR the rider can continue with the
remainder of the Rail Class.
If there is a tack problem the rider can call a Time Out to resolve the problem OR the rider can
continue with the Rail Class.
The rider of the horse in the rail class does not have to be the same rider that rode the horse in the
Pattern Class. If there is a change of rider please notify the show office and an AEPA
representative 24 hours prior to the rail class.
A horse’s order of entry into the ring, for the AEPA Arabian Horse Times Arabian Futurity,
will be determined by an AHA randomly generated list of the horses that are showing in the Rail
Class. The random list will be generated the day before the Rail Class is run. As each horse
enters the ring it is suggested that the horse and rider are announced as they enter the ring and
trot around the ring and wait near the out-gate area until all horse have entered the ring. Once all
horses are in the ring the class will be called to order.
Horses enter the ring in a normal manner for the AEPA Halcon Furniture Half-Arabian
Futurity.
Any horse that is not present and misses the entry into the ring will have been considered to have
missed the class. A horse having a problem in the Paddock area, as described under Paddock
Class Rules, can request a Time Out to resolve the problem.
After the class has been judged all horses will remain in the ring near the out gate area. The
horses placing in the class is announced in reverse order. It is suggested that the following be
announced – placing, dollar amount of winnings, horse number, horse name, riders name , sire
name, dams name and breeders name. The rider will trot to the point in the ring where ribbons
are being awarded and photos are taken. After the ribbon and photo presentation the horse trots
out of the ring. The Reserve Champion will depart the ring prior to the announcement of the
Champion. The Champion remains alone in the ring, and there may be a brief interview of the
Champion prior to the Champion exiting the ring.
The AEPA class sponsor may be present in center ring for the Pattern Class and the Rail Class.
The AEPA president will be present in center ring for the Pattern Class and the Rail Class to
represent the AEPA. If the president is not able to be in center ring then the president may
appoint an individual to be in center ring to represent the AEPA.
Miscellaneous Rules for the Paddock Area, Pattern Class and Rail Class
For problems that are not address in the AEPA Class Rules, and the AEPA is not able to make a
determination on how the problem should be resolved, the AEPA may request that AHA make
the final decision as to the resolution of the problem.
