Week 2 Term 2
Wednesday, 7 May 2014
Some of our families have just returned from Rome for the canonisation of Saint John XXIII and
Saint John Paul II. These two Popes, both in their different ways, were giants of the twentieth
century, speaking to the hearts and minds of women and men in the modern world.
One thing in particular which these saints had in common was a deep love for Mary, the Mother
of Jesus and our Mother. During May at Tangara our children live the traditional May pilgrimages, walking with Christians down through the centuries in this sign of love and affection for
Mary. She is a model for all people, but especially for women. Writing in 1987, Saint John Paul
II said this:
“The figure of Mary of Nazareth sheds light on womanhood … by the very fact that God, in the
sublime event of the Incarnation of his Son, entrusted himself to … the free and active ministry
of a woman. … In the light of Mary, the Church sees in the face of women the reflection of a
beauty which mirrors the loftiest sentiments of which the human heart is capable: the
self-offering totality of love; the strength that is capable of bearing the greatest sorrows;
limitless fidelity and tireless devotion to work; the ability to combine penetrating intuition with
words of support and encouragement (Redemptoris Mater, 46).”
We congratulate the Year 7, Year 8 and Primary B ISDA Debating teams who have made it
through to the semi-finals. As usual, our girls tackled some challenging issues including
international espionage, buying Australian made, asylum seekers and the death penalty. Great
work girls!
A very happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers and grandmothers this Sunday!

MOTTO
Personal Endeavour
Personal Endeavour means each one of us strives to do our best in all our undertakings. This is
not always easy as we often get tired or find that some things we are asked to do are not to our
liking. It is at times like these that we find it hard to exercise personal endeavour; therefore we
need to rely on some of our other virtues such as fortitude
and resilience.
How often each of us has been faced with a challenge,
which we feel we are not capable of completing? Rather
than resorting to ‘I can’t’ which is our immediate reaction,
we can turn the ‘can’t’ to a ’can’ with the virtue of personal
endeavour. We can refuse to give up and face the challenge with a cheerful attitude of ‘Well, I will give it a go.’ It is
surprising how much we can achieve through personal endeavour.

M ATCH REPORT
Tangara 10F Vs Gazelles
Score: LOSS: 10-6
The girls played a wonderful
game of netball this weekend.
The first quarter of the game
saw both teams evenly
matched with 3 goals each.
This continued on into the second quarter. Alyssa Jones (GA)
and Lizzy Lennon (GS) worked
hard together in the goal circle to produce further goals.
It was an exciting game to
watch. Phoebe Lagudi's (GK)
and Isabelle Ung's (GD) defending skills were great. Maddy Ragell (C), Ying Li (WD) and Elsie Wolter (WA) worked tirelessly to
keep possession of the ball. Unfortunately as the game progressed the Gazelles managed to overtake
us. Despite this the girls did not give up and tried their best till the very end.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------Tangara A Reserve Vs Glenwood
Score: WIN: 28-26
Winning the toss helped set the tone for our girls, and from the first whistle they came out playing
hard, quickly taking the lead 5-1 in a matter of minutes. The focus on hard passing, the need for
constantly re-offering and solid drives down the court at training really showed dividends in this
game. All players were focused, displaying great team unity up and down the court. The conditions
were particularly chilly, but despite this, the girls maintained their intensity for the entire game.
Glenwood continued to put pressure on throughout the game and we entered the 4th quarter 3 goals
down. The 4th quarter saw the girls continue to do their jobs brilliantly and maintain their composure to win by 2 goals. It was an exciting game to watch, and I'm very proud of the way they all han-
dled themselves so beautifully - congratulations to Hannah Ragell, Lucy Faehrmann, Madeline Gilbert,
Emily-Rose Abrams, Rachel Ash, Kathleen Carmody, Jacinta Sugiaman & Bernadette Meney.

Tangara 8 Wattle Vs Glenhaven
Score: LOSS: 0-2
Wow what an improvement in our girls this week
with great ball and defence skills from everyone
in the team. The defence was so strong with Elaria Girgis and Isha Desai getting the ball at so
many opportunities.
Elizabeth Cauchi was so great as centre and
showed great catching as did Mollie Faehrmann
and Lucy Barbero in the wings. And Keira Sebire
and Mian Li were quick to get the ball when it
came near our goal.
Player of the match went to Elaria Girgis for her
great defence skills and working so hard to get
the ball down to our end of the court.
We still haven't won a game yet but our skills are improving each week and the girls never stop smiling

Passing was key to this game. For Natalie, Hannah,
Karmina, Angela, Chelsea and Veronica this was a

Match Report Tangara 10 vs Star Troopers
The team played really well for their first game of the season. We welcome Denise and Mary Rose to the
team. The game was a bit slow at the first half but by the end of the second half of the game, the girls
won 36 to 16. Everyone worked really hard on the defence, as well as hustling and rebounding. Even
though it was their first game with this team, both Denise and Mary Rose worked so well with the other
members. Kathleen, Catherine and Jess lead the score chart but Amy and Harriet have gained more confidence in shoo ngs and lay ups and did really well at this game. Well done girls!!
