Risk Matrix Lack of Acceptance by the Community (C1) 4 Customer Risks Financial Risks 3 Effective Solution (C2) Software Development Cost (F1) Scheduling Risk 2 Hardware Cost (F2) Delays in Development (S1) Incompatibility (T1) 1 Technical Risks Hardware Failure (T2) Offline Accessibility (T3) 5/6/2013 1 2 3 4 5 45 Customer Risks Lack of Acceptance by the Community (C1) Impact: 5 Probability: 1 Problem: The Nottoway community may not accept or like the game. The game could be deemed offensive. Mitigation: Include the community in the development process. What would they like to see in our game? What shouldn’t we include in the game that could potentially be offensive? Effective Solution (C2) Impact: 4 Probability: 3 Problem: What if the users are not learning the language? Is the game too hard? Is it boring? Is it attractive? Is the strategy fun? Mitigation: Institute play testing by the community on alpha builds. Receive customer feedback as soon as possible in order to address these problems early on. 5/6/2013 46 Financial and Scheduling Risks Software Development Cost (F1) Impact: 3 Probability: 1 Problem: Is the game too expensive to develop? Mitigation: While some expense will be necessary by utilizing university resources and academic discounts we should be able to mitigate any cost. Hardware Cost (F2) Impact: 3 Probability: 3 Problem: If we have to move the game off of university hardware will we be able to afford hosting from the private sector? Mitigation: Fundraising and allow advertising on the site Delays in Development (S1) Impact: 3 Probability: 2 Problem: What if the first Elders team runs into developing components we our product relies on? Mitigation: Attempt to develop around them and stay on schedule. 5/6/2013 47 Technical Risks Incompatibility (T1) Impact: 1 Probability: 2 Problem: The game may be incompatible with outdated or certain browsers. The game may be incompatible with certain computer devices (mobile phones, older computers, tablets, etc.) Mitigation: Proper testing of game on different web browsers, operating systems, and devices. Integrate fail safes that advise the user to upgrade their web browser. Offline accessibility (T2) Impact: 4 Probability: 4 Problem: What if the community doesn't have internet access? Mitigation: Assess the need for an offline version and then discuss how to implement it 5/6/2013 48 Target Customer Base ◦ Nottoway Indian Tribe ◦ United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (U.N.E.S.C.O.) ◦ Endangered language revival groups ◦ Museums 5/6/2013 49 Competition ◦ None for the Nottoway Language ◦ Online games with respect to endangered languages is non-existent ◦ Rosetta Stone has an endangered language project 5/6/2013 50 Competition Matrix 5/6/2013 51 Existing Products ◦ Uses your speech pattern to internalize it ◦ Mentally stimulating diversions 5/6/2013 52 Works Cited [1] Old Dominion University, Web. 18 February 2013. http://www.cs.odu.edu/~cpi/old/410/purplf12/ [2] CCIC , Web. 18 February 2013. http://www.coastalcarolinaindians.com/site/wp-content/themes/thesis_185/custom/rotator/ [3] Old Dominion University, Web. 18 February 2013. http://ww2.odu.edu/home/site/odu_logo.gif [4] Sorosoro.
