Download the English Waste Calendar 2017 at www.gemeentemaastricht.nl/wastecalendar
In this waste collection calendar you can find out how you, as a resident of Maastricht,
can dispose of your waste. Do you still have questions after reading this waste calendar?
Then take a look at www.gemeentemaastricht.nl/english/waste. Here you will find further
information about our waste policy and the different types of waste. On this site you can also
apply for a new waste disposal pass or an organic kitchen and garden waste (GFT) container
or make a report. If you prefer to contact us by telephone then please call on 14 043.
Residual waste
Household waste primarily consists of valuable resources such as paper, glass, plastic, metal, organic kitchen and
garden waste, and pruning waste. The rest is known as residual waste. You can dispose of this residual waste in the
special red and white municipal household refuse bags. Residual waste is incinerated and converted into energy.
Organic (kitchen and garden) waste
Organic waste is kitchen and garden waste. This includes the peels and skins of vegetables, fruit, and potatoes;
left-over food; meat and fish remains; nutshells; egg shells; vegetable oils; solidified fats; and weeds, small-scale
pruning waste, mowed grass, and leaves. You can dispose of organic waste in the special green container or bucket.
Organic waste is processed into compost.
Paper and cardboard
Paper and cardboard are renewable natural resources that are recycled into new paper and cardboard. Paper is collected once a month and can also be disposed of at the neighbourhood recycling points or the recycling centre.
Household chemical waste (KCA)
Household chemical waste is household waste that contains chemical substances that may be harmful to public
health and the environment. This includes empty batteries, light bulbs, penlight batteries, paint products, and oil
products. Several of these materials are suitable for recycling. You can dispose of household chemical waste at the
KCA deposit van or at the recycling centre.
Clear and coloured glass
Glass jars, pots, and bottles can be disposed of separately at the neighbourhood recycling points or the recycling
centre. Please ensure that you separate the glass based on colour, as clear glass can be turned into coloured glass
but coloured glass cannot be turned into clear glass.
PMD (plastic packaging, metallic packaging, and drinking cartons)
PMD is the abbreviation for plastic packaging (including plastic bottles, containers, foils, and bags), metallic
packaging (including soda cans, tins, and lids), and drinking cartons (for fruit juices and dairy products). New products can be made from recycled packaging. You can dispose of your PMD waste at the neighbourhood recycling
points or the recycling centre.
Reusable goods
Cast-off but still usable goods can be disposed of at second-hand shops. Some of them will collect reusable goods
for free. You can also drop them off yourself. Non-usable goods can be disposed of at the recycling centre (see bulky
waste).
Bulky waste
Bulky waste is waste that does not fit in a refuse bag and cannot be reused or recycled. These are items such as worn
couches, broken chairs, or old carpets. You can bring your bulky waste to the waste collection centre. You can also
arrange to have your bulky waste collected by the municipality by the MTB collection services. Please visit www.
mtb.nl for more information or call on +31 (0)43 382 44 50.
Fireworks collection
Municipal residual waste bag/organic kitchen and garden
waste bucket
• Please put out your securely closed municipal residual waste bag
and closed organic waste container on the kerb no later than
6 AM on collection day. You can put your refuse out for collection
from 7 PM the evening before collection day.
• Once emptied, remove the container from the kerb by the end of
the collection day at the latest. If a Municipal Management label
has been put on your container, please follow the instructions on
the label.
• Please do not put out more than two closed containers (140 litres)
or a closed bucket at a time. Containers which have been
overfilled, are too heavy (maximum of 75 kg), or contain incorrect
waste will not be emptied.
• The maximum weight allowed for the refuse bags is7 kilograms
for a 50-litre bag and 3 kilograms for a 25-litre bag.

Spent fireworks

at the police station. Maastricht municipality will be supplying the refuse bags for fireworks free of charge. These
bags should be used to clean up spent fireworks. The refuse bag for fireworks can be put out for collection with
the municipal household refuse bags in the first two weeks of the new year. You can also dispose of this bag at the
recycling centres free of charge. You can collect your free refuse bag for spent fireworks at the following locations
