Denver, the mile-high city and land of sunshine, is noted for its many well-kept city parks, numbering more than thirtyfive. With early and commendable foresight, Denver planned for these fine parks and a system of boulevards connecting them which today evoke the admiration and envy of visitors from less fortunate or progressive communities. The largest of these parks is City Park embracing an area of 468 acres. Within the Park are numerous recreational facilities. Here, also, may be seen the Thatcher Memorial Fountain, consisting of three bronze figures, surmounting a basin of Colorado granite, the work of Lorado Taft. The Electric Fountain in the center of the large lake is a showplace during summer evenings when thousands gather to watch the eye-pleasing spectacle of myriads of ever-changing colored lights playing upon the dancing waters of the fountain. In City Park is the Denver Museum of Natural History housing a vast collection of mounted birds and animals of all continents and climes. There are also exhibits of minerals and meteorites, as well as some prehistoric animals. Phipps Auditorium, in conjunction with the Denver Museum, seats 965 and is used for lectures and certain public enterprises. It is airconditioned and embodies the latest acoustical developments. The zoological gardens in the northcentral section of the park contain many species of present-day animal life, in simulated native habitats. , - Beautiful City Park in Denver, Colorado, as viewed from the steps of the Denver Museum of Natural History.
