Arts Integration Lesson: Science, Language Arts, and Movement
The students will create similes and metaphors analyzing Human Body Systems. Students then choreograph movements which
correlate to specific body systems.

components of the Human Body Systems
becoming familiar with the content.

Art Focus: The students identify the four elements
of movement (Body, Energy, Space, and Time)

a movement lesson that will allow students to
choreograph their given Human Body System.

Student Planning: Small groups visualize,
choreograph, and create movement to their given
Human Body System.
Direct Instruction: The students learn about the
Human Body Systems through hands-on activities,
direct instruction, and group projects.
Step 6
Performance: Students present their piece and reflect
by throwing positive stars to their classmates.

“It has been great watching students use their imagination to
create Similes and Metaphors that describe parts of their Body
Systems. The Imagery and Word Choice has been amazing!
Then it was fun to watch them put these phrases to Movement – I
have seen this Unit come alive in their enthusiasm and have seen a
greater understanding of the purposes and functions of the Human
Body Systems. This type of learning encourages learners of all
ability levels to be successful.”
