This week we have continued to find out about polar animals. We have listened to the Carnival of the Animals
and matched movement to music. We have used musical instruments to create our own animal music.
Phonics
We are learning to link phonemes (sounds) to graphemes (letters) and to segment and blend two and
three letter words using the taught sounds.
Please keep your child’s Letter and Sounds book at home to practise and review.

Activities
Share some books with your child about birds and animals. Talk about how we can care for them in
the winter.
Do you care for birds? How?
We are continuing to use adjectives in our writing to make it sound more interesting to the reader.
When sharing a book with your child talk about which words are adjectives. Can your child think of
another adjective to describe the object?
This week your child has chosen a polar animal to create using a range of media.
See photo on next page.
Can your child think of adjectives to describe their chosen polar animal?
Next week…
we will be making bird seed cakes and talking about birds and how we can care for them in the winter.
We will be finding out why some animals hibernate.
We will continue to share ‘Father Christmas’. From this key text we will be learning
to say ‘please’, ‘thank you’, ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ in French!
