Short biography
Professor Yane Kodzabasija, PhD, studied musical theory at The Music Academy in Belgrade
(professor Vlastimir Pericic), while solo singing at The Faculty for Musical Art (professor Kosta
Trpkov). His post-graduate studies were at The Musical Academy in Bucharest mentored by
Sebastian Barbu Bukur, PhD. The title of his PhD thesis is ‘The Byzantine Music Culture in the
Territory of Macedonia in IX Century’. In the last few decades, his main interest is the church
singing from byzantine tradition. Since the Republic of Macedonia’s independence he’s been
researching the Eastern Church singing and was active for its regeneration in the Macedonian
orthodox churches. He’s been teaching at the Theological High School, and today he is a
professor at The Orthodox Faculty of Theology, teaching on the post-graduate studies for the
subjects of: Historical Aspects of the Church singing and Theory and Practice of the Church
singing from the Byzantine Tradition. He published many anthologies for church singing, as well
as theoretical publications for studying the Eastern Church singing.
