EHA Member Comments – Mount Everest Fitness Challenge 2014 The total EHA program is so positive. I want to thank you for all of your work. The education component, the variety of methods to address wellness (I forgot how music is a relaxer), the emails to remind me to stay on task when bad habits slip back into my lifestyle, the information about cause and effect with wellness in our life have changed my lifestyle to this point. I can't wait to evaluate my lifestyles in another year. Keep up the great work! Will wear my T-Shirt with PRIDE!! I now, after this program will still concentration on exercising, eating vegetables and fruits, which I never thought I would enjoy, but do, and try to stay on track with keeping healthy. I really enjoy the EHA program. I believe it has helped to keep my diabetic levels down. Thank you for helping me see that being healthy can be enjoyable. I was already doing most of the things in this challenge. But, this challenge did help me keep motivated to keep going with my program. I have actually lost 40 pounds total weight since Feb. I have been at my target weight now for over 3 weeks with no plans on going back to my old ways. I have such a support in you folks and in the co-workers here!!! I love EHA Wellness programs they help me keep "on track" excited about the Iditarod next spring as I used to live in Nome, Alaska :-) I wanted to see if this program was helping me get healthy, so I registered for a 5K run this past Saturday to see. To my amaze, I ran the 5K without stopping. Hurray!! This Program WORKS!! Thank you. I was able to lose 5lbs. I had been wanted to lose weight in a healthy way, and after many failed diets, Mount Everest helped me accomplished my goal. I love the Wellness Program!! I really like this EHA Wellness. The daily reminders keep me focused. The participation gifts are a good reward. Just went to the doctor last week for an annual well checkup. My cholesterol numbers are excellent and I found I have low risk for cardiac problems. Fasting glucose was good too. All is well! I really enjoy your programs. They are easy to use and keep me on track to be healthy and honest about my lifestyle. Thank you! The new format for recording data is much better. I have lost a total of 20 pounds with the help of these programs. This is weight I have put on and carried for several years. Thank you for your hard work to provide an opportunity to be healthy. I look forward to the safety program. The daily check-ins are awesome!!!!! I loved this challenge because it got other co-workers involved. I already do all of these things and so did many people in my group. But we enjoyed watching us climb! I like that the program provides health management goals for me to strive for. I like that recipes are provided because I'm always looking for healthy new recipes. I am a type 2 diabetic. My A1C in March was over 10 (really bad!) I just went to the doctor on the 20th and my A1C is 7.6. I attribute this to my exercise, although I need to exercise more, and eating the "good" stuff, fruits & veggies! Thanks!! I really enjoyed this program--I LOVE the T-Shirt! The extra reading, quotes, recipes, etc. that go along with our tracking are excellent. I have always been an avid exerciser, but I find the reading to be motivating and inspiring. I lost 6 pounds without "dieting". It was amazing. Thank you for your support!! Your programs are very motivational...great support. I do all of these things anyway. It was nice to be rewarded for what I do on a daily basis! Our school had a lot of fun creating teams. We made personalized t-shirts and created 10 teams of 6. At the end of the "climb" the winning team from each school was given an award:) Over the past 6 months, I have had small health issues that have popped up. I was having heart palpitations and was beginning to panic. I went to the doctor and they couldn't find anything. I decided to use this challenge to get my 'crap' together and try to take better care of myself. During this 'challenge' I began tracking my food and journaling absolutely everything I ate/drank. I didn't realize HOW many calories I was eating every day and how much SUGAR I was consuming. I am now an avid tracker and limiting the caffeine and sugar I would ingest has helped the heart palpitations immensely. I am finally starting to feel like myself again and have energy to play with my boys. (It also gives me a good excuse to be outside...they play, I walk-WIN/WIN!!) THANK YOU!!! Wasn't sure I was going to make the summit as my Dad passed away midway through. That messed with my eating, sleeping and exercise. I did make it and am registered for the June program. Thank you for the wonderful challenges! This challenge always motivates me to work hard. I had foot surgery during this challenge, so it helped me prepare before surgery and it motivated me in my rehab after surgery! Love the new website set-up for quickly entering data! THIS IS AN AWESOME PROGRAM. I LOVED THE FEELING OF ACTUALLY THINKING THAT I WAS CLIMBING MT. EVEREST! I needed something to get me into the habit of exercising and this was it! Though the program has ended, I still plan to exercise each day. While I did not lose weight, I did become more toned. This was the perfect amount of time (6 weeks) to get into a habit to help keep it! I LOVE this program! Since we hopped on with the EHA Wellness program I started exercising at home with Hip Hop Abs, Shaun T program and have lost 4 inches off my hips and 5 inches around my waist. My legs and arms are now more muscle than fat and I feel so much better about myself. Mentally I'm more awake and confident then I've been in years. My one year anniversary exercising full time comes in July! Thanks so, so much for all your encouragement, recipes and knowledge! I think whoever is making up these challenges is very creative and a super motivator! Thank you! Having to be accountable makes me more likely to exercise and eat healthy. I think talking about the program at work gets more people involved. Really enjoyed 'tracking' my progress this way. The thing I like best about the wellness challenges is that it makes me think about the goals of the challenge. Every day when I see the email it reminds me to work out and include healthier foods in my evenings. The EHA Wellness helps me stay on track of myself and keep me accountable! The whole EHA Wellness program has made me much more aware of what I am eating, exercise and sleeping. I love this program! So much fun! These challenges always motivate me to make better choices! I really loved this segment, wish it would last longer. Loved the recipes. My blood pressure has gone down to 117/73!! This program has really changed my live helping me to life healthy. I am exercising every day and have lost 14 pounds! I am just going to keep climbing! This was a good challenge. Made me think about healthy habits. My fibro makes it difficult to do my previous activities, and I am having surgery on my shoulder so even my yoga has become difficult. But I live this plan and will continue to meets my weekly goals! My kids have become my cheerleaders and we all have fun being active together! Really like the info on the daily e-mails. Set some personal goals during this and logged meals. That really helped. The program has made me aware of the short comings in a healthy lifestyle and has given me more balance in all areas. Helps me not to cheat!! I haven’t lost 1 lb but feel so much better. Excellent program to get me sleeping and eating better. I have started eating more fruits and veggies. I have also started working out again! Although I didn't reach the top, I became aware of my exercising routine and the amount of fruits and vegetables I ate. I love your recipes. It gives me permission to go to bed! May sound strange...but that is hard for me when I still have work to do. If I am honest, exercise is in the same frame. I feel I need permission to enjoy life because my students are not all making AYP. I feel better and less jumpy when I am reporting. This was a great program. Great recipes! Sleeping better due to YMCA exercise and nighttime yoga. I like these challenges to become more aware of my routines and behaviors. Always room for self-improvement. Feel better, better eating habits I especially related to one of the quotes, "If you don't like something change it, if you can't change it, change the way you think about it." It really helped me to deal with a very difficult situation at work. I absolutely HATE mornings, but this challenge got me to work 30 minutes early, so I could walk. It got easier as the weeks went on. Was training for a half marathon during this time! I already do most of the behaviors. Good program! Feel much better! I felt less fatigue and overall more relaxed and in control of my emotions. More positive outlook and had less headaches and migraines. Overall I changed my eating habits... and less in between meal snacks. I made myself long-term changes to a better lifestyle. I enjoy doing these challenges - keep me focused on what I need to do to stay healthy, and it helps knowing I am not doing this alone. Love to exercise and eat healthy! I had already maintained healthy eating habits and strength training fitness routine before joining the Mount Everest Program, and therefore did not have any weight loss goals, however, it was still a lot of fun to track progress and I really like the looking at and trying some of the new recipes! This has really helped me to emphasize getting more sleep. I was able to lose some weight this time during the program. That made me feel good! I feel like now the it is warming up outside it is easier to be healthy? Focus on sleep, which helped with all the other aspects of the program. Eating more fruits and vegetables which is great. Exercising more and loving it. I feel I am more aware of my eating and exercising! Thanks so much! I love this program. It makes you aware of your eating and exercising habits. It motivates you to improve. Thank you I have become more mindful of the amount of rest I get and also the amount of fruit and veggies I eat. I and constantly aware of getting my 30 minutes of exercise a day. It’s hard. Really helps to have goals to strive for. Keeps me on track and keeps me eating healthy. I learned to be more conscientious about eating more fruits. Keep up the good work. Seems like eating all those fruits and vegetables...although good did not sadly decrease much poundage. It was definitely a motivator in making sure I had fulfilled all of the components. Good program. I became more aware of how few vegetables I was eating per day compared with the recommendation. Thank you for the method of recording positive health measures which can develop into habits. Thank you! Kept me honest about exercise and eating better! The team element and group challenge helped motivate me and my teammates to a healthier lifestyle. I had hoped to do better but had an injured ankle at week one and was not able to comply with the exercise as I had planned. I have lost 2 belt sizes since really pushing myself with this program and an exercise program. This challenge made me more aware of my lack of sleep. I was able to sleep 7-9 hours more often by adjusting when I went to bed. These programs just help me be accountable to myself and my healthy habits. It helps that the program started right as the weather got nice - It is easier to get out and walk when it is nice! I was doing all the right things before, so this was easy. Good program! Love the program and will continue! I think it just makes me stop and think about what I am doing and making sure I am doing it when I have to write it down! I have started swimming an hour 5 times a week as a result of this program. I didn't start until about half way this program, but I'm feeling great! Really liked being made accountable, this really helped. The program just made me more aware of what I was doing right and where I could make positive changes. Thanks so much for that extra little push It was fun! I really liked this one a lot...kept track the best for me. I have made a daily 30 minutes a solid routine and usually get in another 30 minutes in the evening. I feel more content and sleep MUCH better. Liked the team idea! Enjoyed doing your program. It made me conscious of my eating habits. I improved, but it is something I need to continue to work on. Exercise has never been a problem, and on most nights I do get enough sleep. This program was done during my coaching season, so I have to make sure I get to bed and not stay up and work on my coaching program. Best help one can get from a program like this one. I'm sleeping more than I thought I could. Feeling better during the day. Didn't get sick during the school year this year!! This was already what I was doing, so it wasn't too difficult for me to continue. Great program! This program encouraged me to join Jazzercise with a friend! It also helped to notice my eating habits and sleep patterns were off. I really appreciated it!!!! I am a happier self when doing what was asked of this program. Love the program - it helps me stay focused to try to not forget to keep these elements in my life. Honestly before these started I hardly slept 5-6 hrs per night. After focusing hard to get more sleep I have felt the difference and now although it’s still hard to get to bed earlier, I know the value it brings me! My exercise levels were lower this program but it’s also because I'm taking grad classes and working full-time. Something had to give a bit, so unfortunately it was the exercise. Still, I always try hard to eat well when I know I can't get my 30 min squeezed in. I am walking more. Good program! This program made me think about making good choices and kept me on track with my eating habits, exercise and sleeping. After losing 15 pounds I feel that I have more energy. I have always been fairly good at eating fruits and vegetables, but this process definitely made me more aware of my eating habits. I tended to NOT gravitate towards sweets while participating in this program because I more conscious of what I was eating. :) I have lost weight this past month, for the first time in a long while. The program, combined with support from my family, an online food recording site and a fitbit to monitor my movement have all contributed to my success. Thank you! Feel so much better! Great source of encouragement I do a lot of walking at work and on field trips so it is easy to get exercise in and then some. I do like these challenges. It helped me get more focused and on the right track! I purchased an UP24 by Jawbone to track my health and sleep as a direct result of being more motivated for my fitness! Love the recipes! A gym junkie before this started. Working on a goal of moving a 1/2 ton truck with my legs (hip sled) by July 21st. 160# to go! Loved the music series. Love the Piano Guys and will go to a concert whenever they are near Omaha. Awesome! Loved the facts and stories posted about the mountain. Excellent daily reminders, recipes and tracking. This approach to my overall wellness goals is exactly what I need. I didn't lose weight, but I am mindful of the daily ways to participate and keep my health at its optimum level. I had several challenges during this time. I was ill and on predisone under doctor's orders and so maintaining and losing weight was a problem. Knowing that I had to have at least seven hours a night kept me focused on the clock and I didn't let time get away from me at night. I watch what I eat according to serving sizes. Fell much better with less stress when I exercise on a regular basis. I kept very busy! By getting up early in the morning I am able to work out first, eat a low calorie breakfast and exercise late in the evening. I have really enjoyed the program. Keep the program going! I would love to get at least 7 hours of sleep each night but unfortunately, my body just won't do it! Still like to be aware and that is what this program did for me. Although I TRY to accomplish all the goals on a regular basis (correct eating, exercise, sleep), I found that this program provided very interesting reminders to "get them done." I've already made some, and they're delicious - and healthful! THANKS! I may not have met every goal, but towards the end I had a grandchild born and helped out with both kids, so didn't really get the sleep and exercise at that time! I feel I did meet personal goals! This was a great program. The Mount Everest Challenge motivated me to keep moving, and reminded me the importance of getting a good night of sleep - it does make a difference in your daily routine. This was fun. I wish I would have participated in the earlier ones. I go to the Y almost daily. I have lost close to 30 lbs over the year and I feel so much better. I am diabetic, so it is also helpful for my blood sugars and my whole being. Thanks for doing this program. A good program!!!! Fun challenge! Learned new ways to get my exercise in. I needed to lose weight because of my arthritis. This program helped me lose the weight my doctors requested. It made us both happy! Fun and different. Thanks for the t-shirt! I do feel better and have more energy. I started this program for my heart health, and feel it has helped me to think more about exercise and eating for a happy heart! I had trouble completing the exercise part of the program due to surgery. Great program. I trained for a half marathon during the last part of this program. It keeps me accountable to my exercise and eating. Thank you!! Along with eating better I take protein powder every day with a banana. I joined planet fitness back on Jan 9. Eating more breakfast and an early lunch helps me with energy in afternoon!! Lost 17 pounds. I have a walking regiment every other night. Made me more aware of eating the fruits and vegetables but could not always do it. I've lost weight and kept it off. I've become a healthy eater and am exercising to be healthy and to feel better. I'm doing it all for me this time. The e-mail reminders are really helpful and keep me on top of things. It made me feel better! This program is the motivation I need to keep me on track! Seem to be staying in good shape for the time of year. Most importantly, I tried some new types of exercise, resulting in muscle toning and strengthening. The last week, just couldn't get in that 5th session. Life doesn't always cooperate with our goals. I am much more conscious about exercise now that I have been enrolled in the wellness programs for several years. I feel more energetic after the program. Thanks! The behaviors practiced during this wellness event should now be easy for me to implement going forward! April and May are crazy busy! I tried to fit in exercise school and before supper with my family. Love the T-shirt and interesting facts about Mt. Everest. Having others to answer to makes it easier to do what's right and having goals helps during the stressful times I was ill during most of this challenge and could not comply with the exercise portion but did eat my vegies and fruits and also slept seven to nine hours five nights a week. It really made me think about my habits more. I was at home after a hysterectomy and it helped me make a life style change...and hopefully I will feel a lot better in the future. I am able to maintain the requirements with little difficulty because I am under a doctor's care. I had a liver transplant 2 years ago and your program helps me to maintain the dietary, exercise and rest program recommended by my physician. Thank you. Just because I knew I had to monitor, I exercised more and for sure ate my fruits and vegetables! I know I can continue to lose weight until I reach the goal that my doctor wants me to reach. Fun program and I appreciate the ideas and motivation. I did this last year and didn't think I could make it through, but made it! I decided after a blah winter that this would be a good time to make it work again. I like this program because it got me on the right track for summer. I had already submitted my evaluation a couple days ago and had not received my t-shirt. I did get it in the mail that day and it's great. We are all wearing them next Tuesday, our last day of school and our field day. Thanks for a great program The program helped me be more aware of getting enough rest. I take my well-being very seriously and hence it is hard for me to lose any weight. I love the recipes. I exercise at least 1 hour 4 times per week I enjoy participating in this program and I believe it has been helpful to my health & wellness. This has made me think about how much sleep I get each night. I've done better at getting more sleep than I was. This has also helped me maintain my weight and not gain back what I've last the past year and half. Another great t-shirt! Thank you! It is just fun to participate and have a motivation for doing so. I was more self-conscious of trying to complete each aspect and when I didn't I just kept trying harder to accomplish them each day and week. This keeps you more motivated to exercise and eat healthy I welcome these wellness "projects" as I tend to do good for awhile & then I fall back into bad health habits. I try to be healthy and do these things anyway, but the program makes me focus and monitor exactly what I am doing. This program is like a companion to keep me accountable for my healthy lifestyle. I have finally lost some weight and not sure if it was the program or losing my mom during this, but it was great to keep myself accountable for my habits. It is not just weight loss that I use as a measure of wellness. As colleages drop around me with viruses and other illness, I consider my wellness program helping me to stay well and in the office. That is very important to me. Thank you! Some days were more challenging for me but got through it. I have tried to maintain good exercise, eating, and sleeping habits before this program, therefore I did not achieve a great deal of improvement. However, the program did enforce the habits I have established. Thank you. Great program!!! I tried very hard to do the exercising longer than the 30 min. and that helped me lose the weight. The sleeping part I felt really rested by going to bed no later than 10:30 and getting up by 7 am. It was a very good challenge! Keeping the awareness helps even if I was unable to achieve the goals each week. Great program! Thank you for getting me motivated. :) Being active makes me feel so much better and more productive. It's nice being home but it is nice to get out with friends. Gave me a way to track exercise. Liked the combined tracking of sleep, food and exercise. I feel so much better and more productive after I walk. It was a great way to get my summer started. I am in the habit of walking and will continue this summer. We started a walk at lunch club at work! This has been a very positive thing in my life! Finding the motivation to exercise is always the difficult part. I enjoyed that aspect of this program. I was already doing most of these activities. The reminders to eat healthier were helpful. I've been on a healthy living plan since Dec. 1, 2013. I use this as an added motivator, in my life goal. Since Dec. 31st, I have lost 18 lbs. I will not be doing this myself without this program. Thanks for putting it together for us. I thought the facts and tips were very helpful and made me think more about my choices. I sleep better at night and have more energy during the day! I like having these programs available and easy to track. Being in the wellness programs encourages me to keep on with what I'm doing right, and keeps me from being discouraged because of what I can't do yet; like the exercise daily. Lost 5 lbs Especially in the area of adequate sleep, this was a successful challenge for me. I injured my knee during the challenge and that limited exercise, but I am more conscious of the need for exercise and can't wait to get back on the bike at the Y and on the trail. This program is a very nice reminder to me and to our teaching staff to continue with their healthy habits for the 'long haul'. This program did help me to be aware of the fact that I was NOT getting enough sleep each not! Fun activity! I like having the emails to prompt me to stay healthy! I was challenged to vary the vegetables and fruits in my diet - good for me! Enjoyed the overall program! The incentives were fun and a good reminder each day. I did a 1/2 marathon on May 4th so I did some resting of my body before and after the race. So I did not exercise all 5 days those two weeks. I finished the race at age 62 and beat over 3,000 runners. Only 98 runners ran that were older than I was. (Lincoln 1/2 marathon) Great program! Excellent program. Enjoyed it and became a better person for it. Excellent! It helped to make a conscious effort to do the things needed for healthy living. This program helped me become more aware of my habits and encouraged me to incorporate more healthy habits as well as decrease my unhealthy ones. I could always eat two fruits a day but I never was as successful with vegetables even though they were in my refrigerator. Now I make sure that I wash, cut up and bag the vegetables for easy access. No more rotting vegetables in my crisper drawers! I had fun! It was a good challenge Keeping one accountable for activities [eat, sleep, exercise] is a great way to create a new way of life and the program has helped to do that. Great Programs Well done, was fun. These programs keep me in check. I ate an apple every day. Now that I am in the habit of doing such, I wouldn't want to miss a day without my fruit fix. Awesome Program!! Great program! I have joined a gym and have a trainer that has also helped with the program. I got my family members involved and kept taunting them that they had to each their vegetable in order to reach Mount Everest. I was able to be aware of my eating and sleeping habits and worked hard to correct them. Nice program. Very good productivity at work. Have more energy after work. Able to keep my weight down. I think participating just makes you more aware of your eating and exercise habits and give you an automatic peer group to talk about your health habits with. I really enjoy these daily fitness tips, etc. Great program and I am looking for the next challenge with positive attitude, can't wait!!! I have more energy and seem to be more personable with everyone. Exercise is always a good stress remover. I will continue with it to help maintain my blood sugars. I have learned a lot. This program is a great self-check for your health. Keeping it in the wellness program would be a positive. It was a challenge, but very worthwhile. I have so much more energy and physical work (ie. yard work, hauling mulch etc.), walking my dog and everything is much more fun.
