their 2016 GCSE results and also acknowledge the
significant commitment and support of their
parents and families during what is a stressful time

Mr Bowers continued: “We would also like to take
this opportunity to recognise the efforts of the
highly professional and dedicated staff at Mount
Carmel who regularly go above and beyond
what is expected for the benefit of all pupils.
Overall we have bucked the national trend which
has seen GCSE performance dip by 2% in 2016 by
maintaining our performance in 2015 and made
significant improvements in 2016 with the number of
pupils achieving A*/A grades and the number of
pupils achieving 8 A*-C grades.
As always we have some outstanding performances
including Michal Brzostek achieving 4A*, 3A and 3B
grades and Nadima Nawaz with 6A* and 2A grades.
Ellie Brennan also did exceptionally well with 2A*, 6A
and 2 B grades. We are also really proud of a large number of pupils who achieved
above their predicted target grades or who overcame personal adversity to achieve
their grades. These students are the real highlights.”
“We are delighted that 60% of all our pupils achieved 5A*
to C grades in all subjects and 44% of our pupils achieved
5 A* to C grades including English and maths. They have
been a fantastic year group and will always be a very
special one to me as they are the cohort that were in Year
7 when I took over as Headteacher at Mount Carmel. I
have seen them grow from children into young adults and
they are all absolutely fantastic.”
