Summer Term 2013- Newsletter No 18
Science A big thank you to Alan Wray, one of our parent governors, for coming in
and showing us all a little bit of science last Friday. Here’s what the children thought of his visit:
Class 2:
Isabella – “Some people had to stand up and have a cup next to them. Mr Wray hit the
the tuning fork
and put it in the water – it splashed them in the face!”
Joe T – “He had these little pom pom balls and if you put the tuning fork next to them, they moved
away from it. The tuning fork wiggled really fast – we call it vibrating.”
Class 3:
Gabriel – “we had this box with tracing paper on one side and tin foil on the other and a pin. We used a pin to punch a hole
in the tin foil side then turned the lights out. Mr Wary put a candle on and it looked like the vision through your eye. We then
made it better with a lens.”
Maxine – “My favourite bit was when we got the lens and switched the lights off. My dad put the lens near the whiteboard and you could
see an image of Jack in it, even though he was over the other side of the room! He looked upside though.”
though.”
Class 4:
Cameron – “We mixed all of the alkali, acids and neutrals together to make one big concoction. We
learned that if you drink too much alkali or acid then your mouth will burn!”
Millie – “Mr Wray told us that bread actually turns into suga
sugarr in your mouth (especially white bread). It was really good fun when we got to see
the alkali mixed in with the acid because it made a rainbow of colours.
