Welcome to the 8th running of the Oakland Running Festival.
We are excited to host this event once again in
2017. We happily await the 8th running of the
Oakland Running Festival and are glad you have
decide to joins us! The event has become a huge
success with more than 10,000 runners this year
and tremendous community support. The event
has generated more than $12 million in economic
impact and $2 million for local charities.
We are excited to show you why we were selected by USA Today
Sports Active Alliance as one of the top independent races in the
nation and why we consistantly receive ratings of 95% or more for
participants willing to recommend our race to a friend.
This year we have relocated our center of race day activities to
Eastshore Park, located just off the shores of majestic Lake Merritt.
This location provides us plenty of open green space to allow our
runners, fans and sponsors plenty of elbow room as they celebrate
their accomplishments.
This packet includes important information that will prepare you for
the events and activities surrounding race day. If you have entered
the Oakland Marathon, Kaiser Permanente Half-Marathon, Team Relay,
Bank of the West 5K or Kids Fun Run, it is extremely important
that you thoroughly read all of the information in this
booklet carefully.
All additional race materials will be available for pick-up at the
Oakland Marriott City Center on March 31 during the Erdinger
Happy Hour from 5p to 7p or on April 1 from 9a to 4p during the
Kaiser Permanente Health & Fitness Expo. Remember Runner
Packets are available for pick-up during these times ON LY;
there will be NO Registration or Runner Packet Pick-Up on
Sunday.
A CORRIGAN SPORTS EVENT
SAFETY FIRST- We are working closely with state and local police units to
provide the safest possible environment for our runners and fans. Please
leave bags at home and allow extra time all weekend long for any added
security measures which will include bag searches and check points for fans
and runners. And as always, IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING.
Schedule of Events
Events and activities for this
year’s event will be held in two
central locations:
PACKET PICK-UP: Oakland Marriott City Center Convention Center

in Eastshore Park. At 8:15am, both groups will depart for their

IMPORTANT: Each bib has a parent tear tag with the child’s bib
number printed on it. IT IS IMPORTANT that parents tear this off tag
and hold it to help us identify your child at the finish line. We ask that
parents assist their children in getting from Eastshore Park to start the
race. Parents are encouraged to run the course with their child. All
races will start promptly at the time indicated.
Fun Run Finish Area
Upon completion of the race, Fun Run participants are corralled in a
holding area inside Eastshore Park at the Runner’s Exit. CHILDREN
WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE THIS AREA UNTIL THEIR

AWAY SECTION WITH THEIR CHILD’S NUMBER.
After pick up, parents can escort them directly to the Kids Zone to
receive their finisher’s medal. In addition, water, Gatorade & snacks

Tips for Spectators
We encourage all runners to invite their family and friends to join
them at the event. We will have plenty of activities to entertain even
the non-runners while they wait for you to finsih the race. Here are
some tips for a good fan: 1) Wear Comfortable Shoes. There are
several excellent viewing points but you may walk further than some
runners! 2) Come up with a few things to shout at the runners as
they pass. “You’re almost there” should not be one of them unless
you are within the final .2 mile stretch! 3) Make lots of noisecowbells are great, but pots & pans work too!
Finish Line Celebration Village
Part of the excitement surrounding the Oakland
Running Festival is that it is much more than
just a road race. We will have activities in the
Erdinger Celebration Village for people young
and old, and for runners and non-runners alike.
