Review your science sponges and notes. This is a great source for my possible test questions!
Know the 6 Characteristics of Living Things and how to apply to a story such as the creeper video or the Venus
flytrap video.
1. Living things obtain and use energy – They eat food and then use it do other activities
2. Living things grow and develop – everything starts from an embryo and becomes an adult
3. Living things reproduce – males and females have offspring; can also refer to a cell reproducing itself.
4. Living things respond to their environment – a reaction; usually happens quickly.
5. Living things adapt to their environment – to adjust; usually happens over a long period of time.
6. Living things are made of cells – This is what we are studying.
Know the 6 scientists and their discovery. Review the information from the Cell Kingdom video. You don’t have
to know the detail, but you do have to know the story about how cells were discovered.
1. Hooke – discovered cells
2. Leuwenhoek – discovered single cell organisms
3. Pasteur – disproved spontaneous generation
4. Schleiden – discovered all plants are made of cells
5. Schwann – discovered all animals are made of cells
6. Virchow – discovered that cells come from other cells
Know the 3 parts of the Cell Theory
1. All living organisms are composed of one or more cells
2. The cell is the basic unit of all living things
3. All cells come from pre-existing cells
Know the 14 parts of the microscope, the function, and how to calculate magnification
