Summer Reading for those entering Third Grade
Summer is a great time to do some reading. This year, every child will be required
to read the story “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White. The story is about friendship,
spiders, farm life, farm tools and machinery, and farm animals.
This will be the only book required for summer reading because it is a chapter book.
The first project for this book is to pick a character from the story and write a
Cinquain Poem according to the written directions given. In addition to this, the
students are asked to keep a reading log as they read the story. A rubric for the first
project has also been included.
Lastly, see directions and rubrics for your second Technology Project which is to make
a comic strip using the characters from the “Charlotte’s Web” book.
This will all be due the first day that we return to school, Sept. 1, 2015.
Have a great summer and Happy Reading!

SUMMER READING TECHNOLOGY PROJECT
MAKE-YOUR-OWN COMICS
Bring Charlotte’s Web to life! Make your very own comic
strip, where YOU decide what happens to Wilbur and his
friends. Use this website to design your comic strip:
http://www.scholastic.com/charlottesweb/comic/index.htm
Make sure you use all the tools like characters, objects,
settings, captions, and conversation bubbles to make your
comic strip look like a real comic strip.(see example below)
Be CREATIVE and always check for spelling and grammar
errors before printing. Remember to put your first and last
name on the back of your project.
When your masterpiece is complete, print it out and hand it
in on your first day of school.
