GHHS COMMITTEE DUTIES
VICTORIAN TEA:
Set Up: The committee is responsible for decorating the tables with tablecloths, etc. on
the Friday prior to the Tea.
Kitchen: The committee shops and cooks all foods served at the Tea.
Tea Room: Servers wear black skirt, white blouse. Also, wear aprons, which are
provided by the Tea Room Committee.
Cashier: Collects payment for the Tea.
ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES:
Annual Auction: Collects donated items for auction throughout the year. These items
are unpacked, cleaned and sorted a week prior to the auction which is held mid August.
Repatriation (in conjunction with Museum): Searches out, investigates and procures
antiques and artifacts that were sold off at auction from the House in 1945.
Collectible Sales: Lower valued and small collectibles donated from the public to
GHHS are sold at every Tea.
Black Tie Auction: Items donated throughout the year are auctioned in October. Sub
committees are required for sponsorship and ticket sales.
INFORMATION/COMMUNICATION:
Portico (Newsletter): Gathers information, pictures on activities of the Society for the
quarter and publishes a newsletter that is distributed to members. Typing and publishing
skills are required.
Website: Keeps website current and updates relevant information. The committee
meets six times a year. Knowledge of website updates not necessary.
MUSEUM:
Inventory: Confirm the inventory of artefacts within the Museum and in storage.
Knowledge of handling of artifacts will be an asset.
Dusting: At the request of the House, this committee cleans and dusts the artifacts,
silver and antiques in the museum. Knowledge of care and handling of artefacts will be
an asset.
OTHERS COMMITTEES:
Membership: Keeps record of membership registration and updates membership
database. Membership dues are collected monthly and turned over to the treasurer.
Special Events: Assists existing committees as required with set up, food plan and
preparation, entertainment, decorating and any other area. May also recommend and
plan new events.
Dickens Yuletide Singers: Committee plans this event in December for the public to
attend during the Christmas season.
Jocko’s Friends: This is the youth club. The committee plans a variety of activities
on a quarterly basis for school age children who are members of the Jocko’s Friends.
Events are held for enjoyment to learn various skills and to teach them how to become
young volunteers.
Note: All volunteers receive training and instruction in the area they choose to
volunteer.
