WHAT HAPPENED?
• General Gage orders that ammunition and
supplies in Concord be seized.
• British soldiers set out to seize weapons and
ammunition and search for Adams and Hancock.
• Boston was sealed off to keep colonists from
warning each other; however, colonial leaders
were able to warn the countryside despite the
road blocks. The Midnight Ride  Revere,
Dawes, and Prescott.
Lexington and Concord
• British troops and the MA colonial militia
collide at the North Bridge in Concord.
• Another confrontation takes place on the
green at Lexington.
• Adams and Hancock are
warned and not captured.
• Most of the supplies had
been safely hidden before
the British arrived.
Interesting Facts
• Marks the first fighting of the American
Revolution.
• Boost for revolutionary support.
• Legend says that the Pitcairne (British
commander) started the fighting in Lexington
by opening fire on the militia.
• Known as the shot heard ‘round the
world…much later in history.
