cultures in the '80s and '90s. Today, nose piercing is popular in the United States, UK, Canada,
the Caribbean, Australia and Europe, with piercings being performed on either the left or right
nostril.

Another study carried in 2001 by a group of 20 sociology majors at Columbia University in
2001, surveyed 100 New Yorkers looking for a job, 50 with nostril/cartilage piercings and 50
with eyebrow/tongue piercings. The result was that 50 people with nostril and eye brow
piercings, received jobs, while those with eye brow and tongue could not.

Indian women often pierced their left nostril the night before their wedding and inserted a
nose stud in the nose piercing. But why the left nostril?
The reason can be found in the Ayurvedic medicine. It is believed that a woman's left nostril
represents the reproductive organs and having it pierced can be actually helpful. It is alleged
that it may reduce the pain during childbirth and also have a positive effect on some medical
conditions, for example,
endometriosis.
So which side should you go for? We recommend the left nostril. But, of course, you may
pierce the right one as well.
Nose Piercing Infection
It is very easy to develop a nose piercing infection, if you do not follow strict disinfecting
guidelines. Bacteria can easily enter the freshly pierced skin and cause an infection. If you
notice some redness, tenderness and swelling after one or two days of nose piercing, do not
panic, because this is completely normal. When this redness, tenderness, swelling and pain
increases with or without yellow or green discharge out of the pierced nose tissue, rush to a
doctor immediately for treating the nose piercing infection.
Nose Piercing Aftercare
Always opt for stainless steel, niobium, titanium or 14k gold. The nose piercing takes around
three months to heal fully. Therefore, avoid fidgeting with your nose and changing your jewelry.
When jewelry is changed too soon, it causes a re-tear, lengthening the healing process and
causing a new nose piercing infection.
Disinfect the nose piercing at least 3 to 4 times a day. Saline solution can be used but it will
cause a burning sensation. Rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on your tissue will increase
the irritation and burning sensation as well. You better off using the proper antiseptic solution
bought at Nails r Us. You can apply powdered aspirin to provide relief from the nose piercing
infection.Do not use swimming pools, hot tubs or go swimming in the ocean, as there are
chances of bacterial infection and pollutant contaminant infection. Always maintain proper
hygiene to reduce chances of bacterial infection.
