girls group earned excellent overall! Congratulations to everyone!
Next Wednesday, March 16, Mr. Solie will take the High School Band to Morris to

Winning Poetry !!
Some of the middle school students sharpened their poetry skills by
entering Mrs. Hynnek’s Middle School Poetry Contest. In first place for
9th grade is Deondre Sigler with his poem, “Equal”, 8th grade is Alyssa Herberg with
“Red” and 7th grade is Lilly Stueve with “Knife To The Heart.”
Page 2
Deondre Sigler: “Equal”
No one listened to the words uttered
They didn't ever give them a chance
This all because they were colored
The nation stuck in a trance
The hope came to help them all
The people finally could screen glory
Like Jackie in baseball
Martin Luther King was a bigger story
Many things went really bad
Rosa didn't give up her spot
She got arrested but I’m not sad
Martin may have got shot
His life may have come to an end
In fifty years it got a little neater
He became a legend
Look at us especially our leader
We have come so far
And we finally are
Equal
Alyssa Herberg: “Red”
It’s the stain upon the wineglass rim,
It’s the memories of a battle wound on the clothing,
It’s the light of the passion in the air,
It’s the color of the liquid that gives you life,
It’s the warmth of the candle’s flame that flickers
throughout the night,
It’s the feeling of shock in the soul,
It’s the shade of the blushed faces,
It’s the emotion hidden in the faded picture that is
framed in the corner.
“The Jungle Book”
By Jenna Johnsrud
The Jungle Book comes out on
April 15! It is a live action cover of the
1967 Disney cartoon movie. It is about
a boy named Mowgli who is raised by
wolves in a jungle. A tiger threatens to
kill him because humans aren't supposed to be in the jungle. Mowgli
leaves the jungle and encounters many
different creatures along the way. Can
he make it out before the tiger, Shere
Kahn, gets him?
Lilly Stueve: “Knife To The Heart”
Last year I fell for you
And I really didn't want to.
But there’s just something about you.
Is what I feel true.
Your love.. It tears me apart.
It feels like a knife to the heart.
But it always.
Makes me.
Want more.
You make me lose my mind.
I wish I could stop the time.
But you just won’t leave my mind.
I need to find out if you’re mine.
Your love… It tears me apart.
If feels like a knife to the heart.
But it always.
Makes me.
Want more.

Spring Sports Summary
By: Alaina Kleindl
Page 3
Athletic Director Jeremy Christensen is excited to report that all Spring sports are
starting within two weeks, and for the first time in years, everyone might actually be outside for the first day of practice!
Softball and Track will begin practice on Monday, March 14. The softball team is
welcoming two new coaches: Head Coach Brian Dahl and Assistant Coach Emily Johnson.
Baseball and Golf will begin their season a week later on Monday, March 21. The
baseball team welcomes back Head Coach Mike Adelman who will be assisted by Zachary
Kaiser. Golf Coach Jennifer Cronen is returning to the green!
The Track team is facing some coaching changes. Zeke Johnson has moved from
assistant to Head Coach and his new Assistant will be Coach Mr. Rasmussen. The first
track meet for the track boys and girls is in Morris on April 5, at 4pm.
CGB fans are probably anxious to get out in the sun and cheer the athletes to victory. The first Spring sporting event will be March 29 when the girls battle WCA at home. Be
there!
Girl Athlete of the Week
By: Kayla Moberg
Even though her number
changes each meet, she keeps
coming back for more every
year! This track star is Cheyenne Arndt who has been a
dedicated member to the track
team since 7th grade as an explosive. Before a meet you will
find Cheyenne doing some stretching or
running warmups in the opposite direction!
Her favorite memory was kicking butt in
LQPV, beating everyone in her heat by a
landslide!!
Who is your favorite athlete?...Usain Bolt
What are your future
plans?....Going to Alex Tech for
registered nursing
Boy Athlete of the Week
By: Brittany Larson
This week’s athlete is
junior golfer Alex Bertram. His
“jersey number” is 24, inspired
by Spongebob Squarepants.
His goal is to be the Michael
Jordan of golf.
With no pregame rituals,
Alex says he “Just goes and
does it.” His favorite athlete is Jed Rees
“Glen” from “The Ringer”.
His favorite sport
to watch is college football, but he enjoys playing golf the most. His
favorite sports memory
was when hockey player
Clint Malarchuk got a
skate to the throat.
