Weekly Winning Poetry !! Some of the middle school students sharpened their poetry skills by entering Mrs. Hynnek’s Middle School Poetry Contest. In first place for 9th grade is Deondre Sigler with his poem, “Equal”, 8th grade is Alyssa Herberg with “Red” and 7th grade is Lilly Stueve with “Knife To The Heart.” Page 2 Deondre Sigler: “Equal” No one listened to the words uttered They didn't ever give them a chance This all because they were colored The nation stuck in a trance The hope came to help them all The people finally could screen glory Like Jackie in baseball Martin Luther King was a bigger story Many things went really bad Rosa didn't give up her spot She got arrested but I’m not sad Martin may have got shot His life may have come to an end In fifty years it got a little neater He became a legend Look at us especially our leader We have come so far And we finally are Equal Alyssa Herberg: “Red” It’s the stain upon the wineglass rim, It’s the memories of a battle wound on the clothing, It’s the light of the passion in the air, It’s the color of the liquid that gives you life, It’s the warmth of the candle’s flame that flickers throughout the night, It’s the feeling of shock in the soul, It’s the shade of the blushed faces, It’s the emotion hidden in the faded picture that is framed in the corner. “The Jungle Book” By Jenna Johnsrud The Jungle Book comes out on April 15! It is a live action cover of the 1967 Disney cartoon movie. It is about a boy named Mowgli who is raised by wolves in a jungle. A tiger threatens to kill him because humans aren't supposed to be in the jungle. Mowgli leaves the jungle and encounters many different creatures along the way. Can he make it out before the tiger, Shere Kahn, gets him? Lilly Stueve: “Knife To The Heart” Last year I fell for you And I really didn't want to. But there’s just something about you. Is what I feel true. Your love.. It tears me apart. It feels like a knife to the heart. But it always. Makes me. Want more. You make me lose my mind. I wish I could stop the time. But you just won’t leave my mind. I need to find out if you’re mine. Your love… It tears me apart. If feels like a knife to the heart. But it always. Makes me. Want more. The Newest . . .
