Description
This frieze can be found on the façade of "Palazzo dell'asilo", around the four sides of
the building under the windows on the first floor, representing angels supporting a
pearl necklace. These figures are meant to recall the reasons behind the construction
of the building itself. According to the legend, one of the seven sons of Count
Giuseppe Visconti di Modrone fell ill. His wife, donna Carla Erba, was desperate and
pronounced a vow on the most precious object she had, a pearl necklace, praying that
his son be saved. Her prayers were heard and she kept her word by building a
nursery school for the craftsmen of the area.
Today the building is home to the tourist information office and the ticket office for
Parco del Castello in Grazzano Visconti.
