Our headquarters received the distinction of an NC Silver Certification in accordance with the LEED Rating System.
LEED is the nationally accepted benchmark for high-performance buildings. The designation reflects our commitment
to sustainability through collaboration with builders, our employees and the surrounding community
ENERGY
• With a variety of heat recovery and demand control ventilation systems, our building was designed to reduce overall
energy usage by more than 15% while providing a safe work environment
• Sunshades on the second floor of our building help keep cool and help maximize the efficiency of the cooling system
WATER
• Using dual-flush water closets, low-flush urinals, ultra low-flow lavatory faucets with motion sensors, low-flow shower
valves and water efficient landscaping helped reduce the building’s overall water usage by 30%
RECYCLING
• The design and construction of the building maximized the use of the locally available materials and those with recycled
content
• 90% of the wood used in the building is either Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified or reclaimed
• More than 75% of the construction waste was diverted from disposal
• Concrete - 54%
• Wood - 69%
• Metal - 46%

EXTERIOR
• Our parking lot was designed so that no more than 12 cars will be visible from
each landscaped room
• Native planted BioSwales and Rain-gardens provide natural filtration and
treatment of storm water, all storm water runoff travels to the back of the
building wetlands
• Gabions are present which are filled with regionally available stone and are
used as retaining walls and erosion control
• Vegetation consists of prairie plants which are natural to the area and require
no irrigation
WELCOME DESK & ENTRANCE
• Flooring is made of Ipe planks which are a Brazilian hardwood prized for its
beauty, density, durability, and as a rapidly renewable resource
• Ipe planks are harvested under the sustainable forest management guidelines
set forth by the International Tropical Timber Association
• Side tables are made of Alder wood from Pacific Forests; Alder has the ability
to quickly establish itself in de-forested areas for the purpose of enriching the
soil to encourage regrowth of the forest
• Area rug is produced from renewable leather with pieces that would be
considered unusable or scrap for other hide applications and therefore
sustained through the manufacturing of rugs
SERVATORY/CAFE
• Flooring is made of Armstrong Linoleum, a fully biodegradable product which
has 35% pre-consumer content and 36% rapidly renewable material content
• Flooring meets the certification by the SCS Floor Score and the California
Specifications Section 10350 for indoor air quality
• Drapery on the windows is made of Maharam Kvadrat Wool which is a rapidly
renewable resource
• Our servery has Energy Star Appliances
• Servery has multiple receptacles for managing a robust recycling program

GREENROOF
• AMCOL Headquarters has two Greenroof Assemblies
• Showcases our CETCO GreenScapes components - part of our environmental
• Division
• The assembly incorporates layers to manage storm water
• Multiple layers of insulation provide an R-value 25
• The native plants attract wildlife and the plants are natural to the environment
• This green roof does not require irrigation
• Patio and benches for employees to enjoy outdoor space
CANYON
• The design of this space was to maximize the connection between the floors
of the building as well as bring natural light into the center of the building
through the atrium skylight
• Conference Rooms enjoy the natural light through glass walls that face the
Canyon
• The monumental staircase in the canyon includes treads made of reclaimed
teak wood
• Serves as a showcase of our diversity of products
• Brought our offices (headquarters) and R&D together into one building.
LABORATORY
• Our R&D lab has the unique feature of having natural daylight for the staff to
enjoy
• Laboratory is state of the art and custom built for AMCOL
• Laboratory houses approximately 35 R&D staff
• Location of laboratory allows for ease of collaboration with all departments
and segments of AMCOL International

OPEN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT
• Our building is designed to provide daylight to 75% of all office, lab, and
collaborative areas
• Offices are on the interior of the building facing the windows so that all
employees experience the natural daylight
• Work space is also designed to maximize open space, exceeding local zoning
requirements for open space by 25%
• State of the art Lutron Lighting System is on a daylight sensor to save energy
consumption
• In addition to earning LEED points, the Ethospace workstations are constructed
from 35% recycled materials consisting of steel, wood, plastic, as well as other
materials and textiles
• The Ethospace workstation system is 78% recyclable at the end of its useful
life
SHOWCASING OUR COMPANY
• Our Cafe and Reception Area contain several displays of Bentonite Clay which
is the underlying and unifying element across many of the markets in which
AMCOL is involved
• The design of the canyon wall includes large display boxes that are filled with
a wide variety of end products that incorporate bentonite illustrating AMCOL’s
diverse market reach
• Displaying product in the canyon was deliberate because it represents the
outcome of collaboration between sales, marketing, and R&D that are brought
together in the canyon and the surrounding collaboration spaces.
