Throughout the year there will be an emphasis on the mastery and usage of appropriate math vocabulary. We will cover operations with fractions and integers, both positive and negative. We work extensively with equations, inequalities, ratios/rates, proportions, and percents. We will apply the use of formulas to geometric figures as we explore area, volume, and surface area. We will work with graphing, displaying/analyzing data, and probability. We will also be exploring financial literacy. Throughout we will focus on developing creative and independent problem solving skills. Grading Guidelines: (Complete DISD Grading Guidelines are available on the website.) Six Weeks Average Grading Formula Major Assessment = 50% (includes tests and projects*) - Minimum of three (3) grades per six-week period *Projects = The assignment of a project is the option of the classroom teacher. Students will not necessarily have a project every six weeks. Daily Assessment = 50% (includes homework, quizzes, and daily teacher assignments - Minimum of ten (10) grades per six-week period Students will have homework assignments approximately 3 times per week. They will not turn these in until the day they are due and should have them in their binder to show you their completed work. Students will be expected to write in their planner daily. This information will include homework assignments, project and test dates, or if there is not an assignment due for that day. As stated in the Student Handbook Danbury Middle School will not accept any late work unless undue circumstances have occurred and the student has received the teacher’s permission. Students who earn grades of 69 or below on completed assignments will have an opportunity to bring those grades up to a 70. Corrections are to be done according to the guidelines that will be placed in the student’s math binder. Semester Average - The average of the three six-week grades will count as 80% of the semester average. The semester exam will count as 20% of the semester average. Classroom Expectations (This is not an all-encompassing list of expectations. Additional expectations for behavior can apply to the classroom and campus.) Be prepared to work.
