The Gospel says:
None of us is good enough.
But when we confess that and
turn to trust in Christ,
we come to know God
and He loves us
in spite of our sin and fallenness.
So how do we live as Christians
in a world that does not understand us,
and thinks we are hypocritical,
arrogant, and hateful?
Q: How do you live as a Christian
in a non-Christian culture?
A: Live in light of God’s sovereign
rule over all things.
1. Use your God-given gifts to engage and
serve culture.
•
Work for the good of all, but keep your identity.

Don’t over-spiritualize Christian jobs.
2. Don’t allow man’s culture to supersede
God.
•
Identity narrative: I alone determine who I am.

Identity narrative: I alone determine who I am.
God’s truth: Identity is not achieved, but
received, as a gift of God’s grace.
2. Don’t allow man’s culture to supersede
God.
•
“Truth” narrative: I alone determine what is
true for me, what is right and wrong.

God’s truth: God’s law supersedes man’s law
and individual decisions about right & wrong.
3. Expect resentment, misunderstanding,
and persecution.
“Blessed are you when others revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against
you falsely on my account.”
Matthew 5:11
“If they persecuted me, they will also persecute
you.”
John 15:20

3. Expect resentment, misunderstanding,
and persecution.
“For the word of the cross is foolishness to those
who are perishing, but to us who are being saved
it is the power of God.”
1 Corinthians 1:18

Take the identity and gifts that God has graciously
given you;
Go into every area of culture with humility about
yourself, and confidence in God
Putting God’s purposes, laws, and principles
above those of men;
Expecting to be resented, misunderstood, and
even persecuted;
Doing your very best to honor God in all you do.
