There’s No Place Like Dexter Elementary Fourth Grade 2016-2017 Email [email protected] 515-789-4480 [email protected] October 14, 2016 Pumpkin Fun and Facts Math madness High school FFA students, Matt, Kayla, and Jay, brought fun and learning to the fourth grade students on Thursday, October 13th. This month we learned about pumpkins! While Matt and Kayla taught us about this huge fruit, Jay began cleaning out the pumpkins. Next, Matt and Jay carved a pumpkin for each class and Kayla reviewed what we had learned. We enjoyed some delicious candy corn during our review. That was the fun, and here are some of the facts we learned: The fourth grade students are using their growth mindset and problem solving strategies to tackle math this quarter. Both classes scored touchdowns on the last math test! Please be sure to check out your child’s score. We have been investigating measuring length and perimeter this week. In our upcoming section, we will take on geometry, fractions, and more multiplication. Thanks for cheering Pumpkins are 90% water! The largest pumpkin ever grown weighed 2,032 pounds! Native Americans used pumpkin seeds for food and medicine. Pumpkin flowers are edible! Pumpkins are used as feed for animals. Thank you, Matt, Kayla, and Jay! us on! Looking Ahead to Next Week Unit 2, Week 4 Next week our class will be talking about how animals in the wild survive. We will learn about animal adaptations that help different kinds of animals survive in their environment. Our homework focuses on identifying main idea and details. Please help your child with this very important skill. It is due Monday.
