3 HOW RESEARCH IMPROVES UNDERSTANDING___
3B Lesson — There’s an Intricate Engineering Approach
LESSON ACTIVITIES
To assure that you are developing a sufficient in-depth understanding from this lesson, be sure
to include these activities in your 3B Lesson study.
JOURNALING QUESTIONS TO EXPLORE EACH DAY
You have hopefully, by now, recognized the value of these questions in helping you pinpoint
particulars about each day that are worth extra attention. Your answers to the questions in this
lesson’s journal pages will improve your awareness of how often you are applying engineeringtype principles and also how often you are avoiding them. By asking yourself these assessment
questions each day and journaling your answers for at least a month, you should begin to
address your emotional reactions more realistically, with honesty and humility.
We are hopeful that these journaling questions will inspire you to make choices that motivate
smarter, healthier thinking. Remember to use the blank calendar page supplement from 2A
Lesson for your journaling questions.
1. How did I apply engineering-type principles today or recognize that I avoided them?
Asking yourself this question daily for at least a month encourages you to note what you do that
you don’t want to do, but know is important, as well as what you avoid and know you should do.
With such a record of your behavior, you can more accurately define what you need to start
practicing to improve.
2. What optimistic outlook could I imagine after experiencing discomfort today?
Asking yourself this question each day for a month requires you to search for a healthy outlook and
soothe your tension. Over time, this may become a habit, which will invariably improve your mood
and temperament.
BEHAVIORAL WORD STUDY
Such a dynamic word as “self-control” definitely requires much more investigation than just
learning its meaning. You will find this word study as a lesson supplement easy to download.
We are hopeful that by spending time investigating the important dynamics of self-control, you
will master better use of self-control in future behavior. Self-control is an engineering-type
discipline that drives us to go an extra mile, accept a harder route, or apply any more
sophisticated behavior.
After reviewing the word “self-control,” please take note of times when you do well and times
when you need increased effort or understanding. Our lack of self-control often is responsible for
too many problems we encounter.
WORDS RELATED TO SELF-CONTROL
Another supplement is a list of over 300 words related to self-control. Skim over this abundant
list that identifies specific ways best thinking balances us and poor thinking causes an
imbalance. We suggest that you use this as a reference, to find and note the best words that
describe how and why you did or didn’t apply engineering-type disciplines, while answering the
above journaling questions each day.
EMOTIONAL EXTREMES
As you begin to more easily recognize emotions effect on your actions and decisions, you should
also be giving more credence to healthier and wiser options. Your choices provide evidence of
your emotional aptitude. An aptitude study, titled Emotional Extremes is a supplemental
reference to this lesson. We are hopeful that this resource will help you make better behavioral
choices, knowing that a wiser option can be difficult to accept, yet valuable for improving your
EQ.
EQ VOCABULARY WORDS
Please review and reflect on the definition of the EQ words below and note how the definitions
relate to this lesson’s subject matter. The definitions here reflect more emotional value than a
standard dictionary. We have highlighted a included an italicized value statement relevant to
each word. To optimize future effects, take time to memorize the brief emotionally enhanced
definitions. Consider reflecting on a different word each day, watching how the word you chose
relates to your thoughts and actions that day.
